Ida M. Taylor, 82, of Chasm Falls, NY, passed away on November 1, 2025 in Plattsburgh, NY with family by her side.
Ida was born in Malone, NY, October 26, 1943. She is the oldest daughter of the late Newell and Erma (Childs) Holmes. Ida grew up in Chasm Falls and graduated from Franklin Academy in 1961. Later in life, Ida returned to continue her education and obtained her standard secretarial diploma in January of 1980 at Central City Business Institute in Syracuse NY. She went on to work for the New York State Department of Transportation until she retired. She greatly loved her job and the people she worked with.
She is predeceased by her parents Erma (Childs) Holmes and Newell Holmes Sr., her brothers, Gordon, Roy, and Michael Holmes and sisters Judith Hawthorne and Linda Holmes.
Surviving Ida are her children, Ronald Taylor of Malone, NY, Suzanne (Roger) Hughs of Bernardston, MA, Lisa Holmes of Plains, PA, Marsha Taylor (Eric) of Acworth, Georgia, Sheila Simonsen of Malone, NY, Robert Taylor of Rochester, NH, and Thomas Taylor of Elbridge, NY. Surviving siblings of Ida are brothers Martin Holmes, Pat Holmes, Ronald Holmes, Rodney Holmes, Newell Holmes Jr. and sisters Ann Tourville, Betty Gardner and Ilene Pickering.
Ida was such a patient, kind and giving person. She really loved spending time taking care of her garden, cooking, crocheting, playing piano and taking care of her home. She spent a great deal of time planting and tending to her flowers and vegetables. She had such a green thumb. Her favorite flowers were roses and her favorite color was red and this was reflected throughout her home and yard. Each of her children plan to honor their Mom by planting roses at their respective homes this coming spring. Ida also took the time to crochet many different gifts for family and friends alike. Whether it was a blanket, sweater, or baptismal gown, she did this with so much love and pride.
Something that maybe not everyone is aware of and something that Ida did with a lot of love, was welcoming family and friends into her home whenever they needed it. Whether it was to help an ailing loved one or helping another when they needed a place to stay, Ida did it with love, patience and kindness. And more than likely, they were lucky enough to have her make her famous Spanish rice. We all remember it, love it, yet can never recreate it.
What Ida also loved was visiting her family in her hometown of Chasm Falls. Nothing made her happier than laughing and joking with all of her siblings. If you know the Holmes' humor, you will know that they truly had a special bond.
Ida is loved beyond measure and in ways that are special to each person that she knew and met. She will be missed by so many and she will always be remembered for her beautiful soul.
A Celebration of Life for Ida will be held on Sunday November 16, 2025 at 1pm at Amvets in Malone, NY. A burial will be held on Monday November 17, 2025 at 10 am at Morningside Cemetery on Raymond St in Malone, NY.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Homes, Malone, NY and online condolences can be made to the family of Ida Taylor on www.fraryfuneralhome.com.

Yesterday

I had the pleasure of working with Ida for many years at DOT. She was universally liked and respected, with good reason. Her kindness and generosity were defining characteristics. Over the years, she donated several of the blankets she crocheted to be given away during our annual charitable giving campaigns. Please accept my sincere condolences.

I'll always remember Ida as softspoken, very kind individual who was excellent at her job. Whenever any "Field" people needed help, she was always there.

So thankful I got to know and work with Ida. One word sums up the relationship I enjoyed with her: kindness. She always had a smile for me and was so helpful when I needed some information from our Construction group. What a beautiful person we were blessed to know and work with. TYL
