Idongesit Ndarake A. Etim (popularly known as Idong) was born on 19 February 1977 at Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Idong was the second of two male children from the blessed union of Mr. Ndarake Asuquo Etim and the late Mrs. Isabella Mfom Etim who were married on 7 October 1974 at Ifuho, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Idong completed his primary education at Aworonshowki Primary School in Lagos, Nigeria. My late wife and I were strong advocates for education and agreed it best for Idong and his brother to join me to further their education in the United States.
Idong and his brother relocated to join me in St. Louis as permanent residents in 1993. He then attended Roosevelt High School until 1996. He continued to keep St. Louis as his home even as he grew into an adult. He worked in the construction and janitorial industries for a period. He was very energetic and enjoyed playing soccer and actually won a trophy with his high school soccer team. Idong joined Global Christian Center in 2018 where he proudly professed his salvation. He remained an active member until his passing.
Idong started to develop complications with his health starting about 5 years ago, resulting in multiple hospital and rehab stays. Late last year, he was admitted to DePaul Hospital from the nursing home where he was recovering from a prior hospital stay. He died at the hospital at 5pm on 13 November 2023.
Idong is survived by his father, sister, and brother, and many in the extended family in the United States and Nigeria.
