It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ilona Alexander, who left us peacefully on September 7, 2025, at the age of 64. Ilona was born in Germany on December 16, 1960, and spent her life as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, residing in Abilene, Texas.
Ilona was married to, Doug Alexander, for 45 wonderful years. Their journey together began with a whirlwind romance that took them on adventures around the world as Doug served in the military. From their early days in Riverside, California, Ilona quickly adapted to new surroundings and travels to various bases. They were always by each other's side.
Ilona's love didn't stop with Doug. She cherished her son, David, and her daughter Kristel, exchanging laughter and joy with her son-in-law, Wayland Cooley. But the light of her life was undoubtedly her two beautiful granddaughters, Makayla and Adalynn Cooley. After their births, Ilona embraced her role as a stay-at-home grandma, supporting her granddaughters in their sports and activities, and sharing her passion for crafting through various craft shows.
For many years, Ilona also touched lives through her work at FDLIC and Joann's Fabrics, creating bonds with those she encountered. Friends and family will remember her as a calm and collected presence, infusing every day with love and laughter.
A visitation will be held on September 18, 2025, from 5:00 -7:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will Also be at Elmwood Funeral Home on Friday, September 19,2025 at 3 PM.
Ilona was preceded in death by her parents, Theo and Inga Wirdemann and her daughter, Kristel Cooley
