Our father, Edmund Schwartzentruber, was Ilona's first cousin. There were many summer trips between Ontario and New York State where cousins got together for a few days only, but we were always beautifully welcomed. We were 7 children, with Ilona and Donald's 7 children! To think of the huge amount of cooking that Ilona would need to do for the meal when we all gathered! We younger cousins had so much fun together, whether with the Schaefers or the Zehrs. I used to be a penpal with Gail, well into our adult years, and grieved a lot when she died. We remember Ilona as a gentle, kind, and attentive adult in our young lives. I am grateful for these warm and loving memories! Ilona represents a generation now ended.
Our condolences to the family. Godspeed!
