Imogene (Spradling) Dothager, 99 years old, was welcomed home by the Lord on Tuesday evening January 2, 2024. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in Houston, TX.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in St. Elmo, Illinois with a 2-hour visitation prior to service. Kent Denton will be officiating. Burial will be held in McInturff Cemetery in Hagarstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Elmo Methodist Church, St. Elmo American Legion, St. Elmo Fire Department, McInturff Cemetery or the donor's choice.
Imogene was born at home in Mulberry Grove, Illinois on December 24, 1924. She was the tenth of ten children of Fred and Ethel Spradling. Imogene grew up in Mulberry Grove and attended high school there. At the age of 17 she met the love of her life, Otis Dothager. They married on Easter Sunday April 6, 1947. Otis's railroad career brought them to St. Elmo Illinois where they created a wonderful life, and lovingly raised their two daughters, Denise and Teresa. Imogene was a dedicated wife and mother. She was most proud of her daughters.
Many times, Imogene commented to her family that she loved being a homemaker and mother. Imogene was fun and festive. She excelled at creating magical holiday memories for her family. She was a wonderful cook. She loved making fun shaped pancakes for her daughters and their friends, her granddaughters, and her nieces. Imogene enjoyed traveling, golf, nature, birds, watching the season changes, mushroom hunting and being with her family and many friends. Imogene loved people and friendship. She generously gave her time to her church and community. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and Legion Auxiliary and volunteered for countless community service endeavors. Imogene will be remembered for her loving kindness, compassion, integrity, sense of humor, contagious laughter and adventurous fun-loving spirit. Imogene was admired for her faith, strength, tenacity, and her positive attitude. She was very proud of and adored her grandchildren and great children. We are deeply grateful for the loving care Mom received at The Reserve at Braeswood Memory Care. You are deeply loved, and you will be missed. Well done, good and faithful servant.
Surviving is her daughters, Denise Springer (Gary Messenger) of Upland, CA, and Teresa Dothager of Houston TX; granddaughters, Aryn (James) Rees and Blake (Aharin) Coke, both of California; Great grandsons, Mac, Lincoln Rees, Canyon, Bodhin, and Kota Coke; Sister- in-law, Erma Freeman; brother- in-law, August Dothager and many loved nieces and nephews.
Imogene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Otis in 2008. They were blessed to celebrate 60 years of marriage. Upon her arrival in Heaven, Imogene was joyfully met by her husband, parents, brothers, sisters, dear family and friends.
