Imogene Mable Thunder-Howard, just shy of her 90th birthday, passed into the Spirit World on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, at her home. She was born on May 10, 1935, in Red Lake, MN, the daughter of Rachel (McDonald) and Baptiste Thunder.
Imogene spent her first five years growing up in Red Lake before attending boarding schools in Pipestone, Wahpeton, and graduating high school from Flandreau. After graduation she received her bachelor's degree from the University of Stout. She lived in many places throughout her years and enjoyed the Midwest. Imogene spent her last 35+ years in White Earth, MN with her late husband, Robert.
Imogene lived for her family. She went above and beyond to make sure that everyone was taken care of. A true matriarch. She liked going to the casino, pow wows, and traveling. She was always trying new things. Imogene, known for her infamous saying of "there is always Plan B" when things didn't work out the first time. She was uplifting, brave, and resilient. She enjoyed reading mystery novels, going to the movies, and crocheting. She had a deep connection with animals, you would never see her without a dog by her side. Imogene made the best wild rice hotdish and fry bread. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her wisdom lives on in those she loved.
Imogene is met in the Spirit World by her husband, Robert Howard; mother, Rachel; father, Baptiste; brothers, Jerome, John, Christopher, and Joseph Thunder; sister, Genevieve Hladek; sons, Baptiste Cyril Howard and Kevin Larson.
Those who Imogene leaves behind to forever cherish her loving memory are her daughters, Cynthia (Steven) Bahe, Rachael Larson, Eve Elizabeth (CJ) Howard; 17 grandchildren, Nathan, Autumn, Kyle, Katie, and Amanda Ronning, Denali Bahe, Victor Moctezuma, Duron Wind, Michael Westlund, Josh Howard, Amber and Matthew Shaugabay, Isabelle Gamache, Kyleigh Gavin, Angel Rabideau, Genna and Adam Larson; 15 great grandchildren with another on the way; 1 great great-granddaughter; and her beloved dog, Blondie.
A Celebration of Imogene's Life will be held Saturday, May 10th, 2025, with a visitation at 2:00 p.m. and service at 3:00 p.m., all to be held at Northern Peace Funeral Home in
Walker, MN. Those helping to lay Imogene to rest are Nathan Ronning, Kyle Ronning, Michael Westlund, Josh Howard, Matthew Shaugabay, Noah Ronning, Colby Hokanson, and Brayden Ronning. Honorary pallbearers are Adam and Tristan Larson, Isaac Smith, Aiden, and Avery Torgerson. Inurnment will be planned when the setting of her headstone is completed in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake, MN.
