Imogene Whitaker was born February 3, 1937 in Lexington, OK to Hermon and Ima Boatright and joined the lord on April 14, 2025 at the age of 88.
Imogene spent her early years in Washington DC fighting for social change. She continued the fight at the local AFLCIO office as the union secretary. Imogene married Charles Whitaker September 8, 1984 where they created a life together in Del City, OK, until his death in 2006.
Imogene was survived by her Son Johnny Mansfield, wife Ellen of Oklahoma City, OK, daughter Linda Steel of Midlothian, TX. Grandchildren Stephanie Kimbell, husband Josh of Midlothian, TX and Tony Steel, wife Jenni of Midlothian, TX and great grandchildren, Wesley Kimbell, Addison Steel and Landry Steel. Siblings, Billy "Sonny" Boatright of Norman, OK and Gerry Hall of Slaughterville, OK and several nieces and nephews.
Imogene was preceded in death by her parents Hermon and Ima, Husband Charles Whitaker, sister Linda Gayle Pomeroy and son-in-law Terry Steel.
Imogene spent the twilight years of her life in Midlothian, TX taking care of her plants, flower beds and enjoyed watching all the fresh blooms. Imogene enjoyed watching her grandchildren, and eventually great grandchildren play sports and could often be heard yelling "get it!". Imogene always found time to cheer on the OU sooners and Dallas Cowboys.
Funeral will be held on Tuesday April 22, 2025 at 10:30am at Barnes and Friederich Funeral Home 1820 S. Douglas Blvd. Midwest City, OK 73130.
