Ion Scutariu

Ion Scutariu passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the age of 79.

Ion was born on April 9, 1946, to Gheorghe and Ana Scutariu, in Bucharest, Romania, and was the youngest of three boys. Growing up, he would spend his time with his family, with reading being a favorite pastime.

As a young man, Ion attended the Socialist Republic of Romania, Ministry of Armed Forces military school, where he graduated as a pilot, with a specialty in electromechanics. After his time in the Romanian Army, he continued to fly as a commercial pilot for many years. Often, he would reminisce with his daughter, Sara, sharing stories of his time flying, with one story revealing he also flew helicopters and was a decorated airman with multiple honors from the Romanian Military.

In the late 1980's, Ion emigrated from Romania and made a new beginning in Sacramento, California, where he would go on to settle down with a family and have a daughter, Sara.

Being Christian and Baptist, his religion was very important to him. Ion regularly attended services at his local Romanian Baptist Church in Sacramento, where he became a part of the local community. He would often help out other church members, volunteering and dedicating time to helping others. In his free time, he enjoyed reading his Bible, spending time with close friends, as well as spending time with his daughter, Sara. He also loved to travel and was often taking trips.

Ion was preceded in death by his parents, older brothers, and his late wife, Ghizela, whom he married in 2014. He is survived by his youngest daughter, Sara, his stepchildren, Robert, Rebeca, David, Violetta, and their families, as well as two children in Romania, Costica and Andrea.

Ion will be forever remembered as a kind, devout follower of Christ, and as a loving father.

A celebration of Ion's life will be held at Preston & Simons Mortuary, in Riverside, California, on Saturday, November 15th, 2025, with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. and service beginning at 11:00 a.m. His gravesite burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park at 12:30 p.m.
