"FAAANTASTIC." This was Ira Kaufman's calling card throughout his long life. Born with bright blue eyes, December 12, 1925, in Peekskill, NY; Ira grew up in Brooklyn's famed Coney Island. From these shores to Vermont's mountains, he loved and embraced every moment. In his childhood ice was still being delivered, today, drones make our deliveries. He went on to defend our country in WWII as a part of the Army Air Corp on the islands of Tarawa, Saipan, and Hawaii, to own his own businesses, sell his motorcycle to raise a family with his wife Valerie, and chase his athletic passions (skiing until he was 90) – always with a smile – always with a deep appreciation for life. Ira is survived by his wife Valerie Broido Kaufman, daughters Andrea Kaufman (Christopher) Robbins, Stephanie Kaufman, and grandchildren Colin Robbins, Kyle Beatrice Robbins, Chase Margaux Robbins Bersano, and Corey Donnelly. He was predeceased by his parents Sadie (Shapiro) Kaufman and Paul Kaufman and his sister Evelyn Kaufman (Manny) Wolff. He died peacefully, early the morning of October 5, 2022, at 96 years old at the Vermont Veterans' Home where he rediscovered his military family. A celebration of life with military honors will he held 2-4 p.m., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Timber Creek Club House, 13 Tanglewood Road, West Dover, VT 05356. Interment will be held Tuesday October 11, 2022, at Beth David Cemetery at 11:30am in Elmont, NY. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Ira's memory may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home Activities Fund, c/o Covey-Allen & Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 215 Wilmington, VT 05363.
