Irene Himes Bowman

"She was our anchor" Clifton Springs-Irene Himes Bowman, age 77, of Spring St., died Monday, September 26, 2011, at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. She is survived by her husband, David Bowman; four children, Debbie (Tom) Chiappone, Melissa (Rich) Larkin, Bart Himes (Erin Hurd), and John (Robin) Himes; three step-children, Ruth Bowman, Gregory Bowman and Roxanne (Todd) Harris; eleven grandchildren, Joseph, Gina, Maria, Nicholas, John, Breana, Bo, Connor, Keenan, Brendan and Elizabeth. She was predeceased by her first husband, Hobert L. "Bill" Himes II in 2000. Irene was born in Sinclaireville, NY. She was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, class of 1951, and that is where she met her husband, Bill. Irene and Bill were married for 44 years. She worked at the Canandaigua Medical Group for many years and made many long lasting friendships. In 2005, she married her longtime friend, David. They loved each other and took care of each other. Irene was "one of a kind". She was good, giving and honest and never put herself first. Her whole life centered around her family and she loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. Irene dreamed of winning the lottery and paying everyone's student loans and mortgages. She made great chocolate chip cookies. She loved animals, especially her dog, Ally. Irene was an avid Syracuse University sports fan and Buffalo Bills fan. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Centerfield Homemakers. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Munsiff and the ICU staff at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic for the excellent care she received. There will be no calling hours. Services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Happy Tails Animal Shelter, 2976 Co. Rd. 48, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
