Irene Deveja Obituary
Irene Deveja, 81, of Madison Heights, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, while in hospice care in Troy.
She was born on January 2, 1945, in Detroit to John and June Deveja.
Irene was a woman of boundless compassion, especially when it came to animals. Whether caring for a beloved pet or helping a stray in need, her love for animals was simply part of who she was. Her garden was another reflection of her nurturing spirit-always full of color, life, and beauty. She found peace with her hands in the soil and took great pride in watching things grow.
An avid traveler, Irene embraced the world with curiosity and enthusiasm. From near and far, she gathered stories, friendships, and experiences that she loved sharing with family. Her playful energy made every moment brighter, and laughter seemed to follow wherever she went.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her three great-nephews, Patrick, Hayden, and Nathan, creating memories filled with laughter, trips, and adventures. She shared a particularly special bond with Hayden until his passing in 2022.
To her niece and nephew, she was more than an aunt-she was an adventure partner, a cheerleader, and a constant source of fun and encouragement. She created countless cherished memories through trips, outings, and spontaneous adventures that will be remembered with love for a lifetime.
She is survived by her siblings, Dolores Deveja and Dennis Deveja and his wife Shirley; her niece Jennifer Lemke and her husband Corey; her nephew John Deveja and his wife Amanda; and her great-nieces and great-nephews Patrick Deveja, Nathan Deveja, Grace Daly, Ella Daly, and Iris Daly.
She will be deeply missed, but her vibrant spirit, generous heart, and sense of adventure will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family will receive friends on Friday, March 13, 11AM-1PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home (Price Chapel), 3725 Rochester Rd., Troy, 48083.
