Irene Ficke Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert on Jun. 27, 2025.
Irene (Roberts) Ficke, daughter of the late Bradford Lee Roberts and Mildred Lena (Medley) Roberts, was born September 1, 1939, in Dillard, Missouri. As a young girl, Irene grew up in Steelville and moved to Potosi where she began high school and graduated with the Class of 1958.
Irene began her working career in the Potosi Heel Factory. During this time, she met a young man by the name of Lee Edward Ficke. They began dating and on May 21, 1966, were united in marriage in Potosi. They shared many wonderful years together and were blessed with three children: Duane, Lisa, and Michael.
Due to Lee being in the United States Army, he and Irene moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1976 after having lived in Germany for one tour.
After moving to Missouri, Irene began working at the Waynesville R-VI School District bus barn as a bus aide and served for 15 years. She decided to leave her job so she could stay at home and care for her great grandchildren.
In her spare time, Irene enjoyed working puzzle books and watching television. One of her favorite things to do was going to Gospel music singings. In her younger years, she would go to large concerts in different states and in later years, you would find her at many of the local concerts. She also enjoyed going to the Waynesville/St. Robert Senior Citizens Center and she played many a game of Bingo.
Irene liked going out to eat and two of her favorite coffee drinking places were Waffle House and Country Café. She was known by her family and friends, as a "social butterfly". She was always finding someone to visit with and she was very good at writing letters or sending cards to her family and friends.
Early in her life, Irene had made a profession of faith and was baptized. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in St. Robert and she loved her church family and getting to worship with them.
Irene went home to be with her Lord Monday, June 23, 2025, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab Center of Dixon, Missouri having attained the age of 85 years. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her two children: Michael Ficke of St. Robert, MO and Lisa Peetz (Chris) of St. Robert, MO; five grandchildren: Ashley Foulk (Frankie) of St. Robert, MO, Kayla Wilson of St. Robert, MO, Robert Peetz of St. Robert, MO, Marilyn Peetz of Tacoma, WA, and Nicole Bexten of Argyle, MO; eleven great-grandchildren: Breaunna, Ian, Nicholas, Jordan, Kieren, Aiden, Hunter, Robert, Kohen, Samara, and Heidi; one sister: Edna Hinkle (Harold) of Mineral Point, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband: Lee Ficke; son: Duane Ficke; two sisters; two brothers-in-law; along with other relatives.
Even though she is gone from our sight, Irene's love for her family and her strong faith in the Lord will live on in our hearts forever.
Services were held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2025 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Pastor Travist Patrick officiating. The songs "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)" by Chris Tomlin and "Jealous of the Angels" by Donna Taggart were played. Jeffrey & Kim Gowen, family members of Irene, sang "Sheltered in the Arms of God" and recalled their wonderful memories of her. Serving as escorts were Nicholas Wilson, Jordon Wilson, Frankie Hamtak, Ian Bexton, James Hinkle, and Robert Peetz. Burial followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
