Irene Mastin Fulton, 101, of Mount Airy, passed away on Sept. 11, 2023, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Fulton was born on April 7, 1922, in Grayson County, Virginia, to the late Ervy Garrett and Ethel Elizabeth Bourne Mastin. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Luther McLean Fulton; a son-in-law, Donald McBride; a granddaughter, Davida Ann Gallimore; and a sister Ellen Criswell. She was a member of Franklin Heights United Methodist Church. She graduated from Woodlawn High School and Radford College. She retired from Bray's Recapping at age 92. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and trips to the beach. She was often seen cheering at her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's ball games. Her greatest love was serving the Lord by ministering to people for over 40 years. Irene is survived by two daughters, Carolyn McBride, Cindy Gallimore (David); four grandchildren, Donna Anderson (Bill), Tammy McBride, Danny Gallimore (Abby), Bobby Gallimore; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Rev. Ray Morgan and Dr. Timothy Sink officiating. Interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 17, from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Franklin Heights United Methodist Church, 428 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC, 27030.
