Irene M. MacKenzie, 103, longtime resident of Manchester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025. Irene was born October 15, 1922, in Mystic, CT, daughter of the late John William Walsh and Mary (Nauen) Walsh. She was the widow of Donald J. MacKenzie who preceded her in 1990. After raising her three daughters, she became the secretary at the Church of Assumption School in Manchester. She later worked as the office administrator for the Assumption RC Church. Irene was also a longtime member of the Assumption Ladies Guild, and the Daughers of Isabella. She spent much of her life volunteering at the church with her husband. In addition, she supported the American Cancer Society during their fundraising campaigns.
Irene is survived by her two daughters Katherine LaBella and her partner Ken Jones, and Mary Ann Lewis, two grandchildren Carl Lepack and Heather Salyer, and two great-grandchildren Gabriel and Connor Salyer. Besides both parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Jean Lepack and son-in-law Peter Lewis.
In lieu of flowers, Irene may be remembered by contributions to the Parish of Saint Teresa of Calcutta in Manchester or to the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Relatives and friends are invited on Wednesday, November 26th for a period of visitation at 9:30 a.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St. Manchester, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at the Church of Assumption, 27 Adams St. South in Manchester at 11 a.m. A private burial will follow.
