Irene Louise Oleman, born April 25, 1934, in Plankinton, South Dakota, passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2024, in Philomath, Oregon. She was one of 7 children of Hugh and Lucille Anderson. Irene and her family moved from South Dakota to Philomath when she was just 2 years old. She attended Philomath schools, graduating from Philomath High School in 1952.
Irene married Norman Oleman on May 16, 1953. They made their home in Philomath, where they raised their four children together. Irene was a dedicated wife and mother.
Irene was a hard worker and had many different jobs over the years, including Burst's Candies, The Store, and WinCo, all in Corvallis. She worked at WinCo until she retired at age 70.
ln addition to raising her family, and working outside of the home, she enjoyed many interests including hunting and fishing, bowling and playing bingo. Norman had played the guitar and sang most of his life, and together with Irene, they attended many events and gatherings with fellow musicians and singers. Norman played music with the groups and also played solos with both Norman and Irene singing along.
Irene is survived by her husband Norman, son Jack, and daughter Sue (Denny), both of Philomath, and daughters Linda Duncan and Laurie Oleman, both of Corvallis.
Norman and Irene have four grandchildren, Brad (Becky) Bennett, Brian (Melissa) Bennett, Jeff Merrill and Wendy (Rick) Zuidema. They have 9 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by brothers Dean (Nita) Anderson of Philomath, and Dale (Patti) Anderson of Alsea, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Esther Gellatly and Pearl Flegal, and brothers Glen Anderson and Merwin Anderson.
The family plans to have a Celebration of Life with the date to be determined.
