Irene Mary Schab (nee Cieslak), 100 years old, of Baltimore, Maryland, died peacefully in her sleep on January 21, 2026.
She was born in 1925 to Frances and William Cieslak and lived with her parents in the Patterson Park area of Baltimore. Irene attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School and a short period of high school before going to work at the Hochschild Kohn & Company Department Store, where she held several different positions, but her favorite by far was wrapping wedding dresses.
Irene married Melvin Peter Schab, whom she had known since elementary school, in 1947. Children soon followed and she devoted her life to raising her children.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Schab, grandson Christopher Schab and daughter-in-law Donna Redmond Schab. She is survived by children Mary Hanson, Michael Schab and Joyce Schab; grandson Andrew Priest, granddaughter Regina Schab Kline, great-granddaughter Hannah Kline and great- grandson James Kline.
Viewings will be held at the Kaczorowski Funeral Home on Thursday, February 26 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Catholic mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27 at St. Casimir Church in Irene's honor, followed by interment at the St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Dundalk.
Irene will be remembered for her relentless pursuit of perfection, her sharp sarcasm, as well as her love of puzzles and David Baldacci novels.
