Irene Szczepanski

Irene Szczepanski, 90, of Shickshinny, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at the Meadows Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Dallas.

Born Jan. 5, 1935, in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Ann (Franco) Kotsur.

On Aug. 10, 1957, Irene married Thaddeus Szczepanski; together they celebrated 66 years of marriage until his death on Feb. 13, 2024.

She was a graduate of Nanticoke High School.

She was a member of The Holy Spirit Parish/Church of St. Mary's, Mocanaqua.

Irene loved her family and enjoyed caring for them.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Szczepanski; seven brothers, Michael Kotsur, Andrew Kotsur, Joseph Kotsur, Frank Kotsur, Stephen Kotsur, John Kotsur, and Peter Kotsur; and two sisters, Anna Zelehoski and Mary Maya.

Surviving are her four sons, David Stepanski and his wife, Nancy, Florida; Edward Stepanski and his wife, Theresa, Sweet Valley; Stephen Stepanski and his wife, Heather, Mcveytown; and Joseph Stepanski and his wife, Kim, Shickshinny; five grandchildren, Lauren Zettlemoyer and her husband, Michael, Philadelphia; Erin Stepanski, Shickshinny; Sara Stepanski, Wilkes-Barre; Koryn Price and her husband, Kevin, Shickshinny; and Mitchell Stepanski and his wife, Hannah, Shickshinny; and six great-grandchildren, Piper, Violet, Elizabeth, Emilia, Canaan, and one on the way.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Mayo Funeral Home, 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny. A Mass of Christian Burial will then follow at 11 a.m. in Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary's, 150 Main St., Mocanaqua, with the Rev. Philbert Takyi-Nketiah, her pastor, officiating as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene's name can be made to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E.D. Preate Drive, Suite 108, Moosic, PA 18507.
