I'm a small business owner and Mr. and Mrs. Washington used to come in often. They were always unfailingly sweet and kind to each other and to us. She was a wonderful lady and I will miss them both.

My Mother, Florine Stratton Ozmint, grew up with your Mother's family in Elbert Co. Mother & Valerie remained close friends throughout their lives. I met your Mother when Valerie was at Hospice. She was such a ray of sunshine & I felt as if I had always known her. I am very sorry for your loss. My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family. Sincerely,
Beth Ozmint Bruce

I am so saddened by the loss of my sweet sweet aunt. My favorite of my fathers sisters because of her sweet smile. It was always there. My three sisters and I often compare ourselves with her and her three sisters, both sets being "the Gulley girls" and you knew they were around because of the laughter. I will miss her.

Irene was always a kind, courteous, and gracious Lady. Heaven is even more beautiful today because she is there. May Our Lord assuage your grief in this hour.

My sincerest condolences to all who had the privilege of knowing Irene Washington. She was my great aunt in more than one way. Her late husband was my mother's uncle. Although I did not have the opportunity to really get to know her this side of heaven, I've read a few comments about her and seen some photos posted by some of her loved ones and have been struck by what a fine lady she must have been. I invite any who are interested to share your memories of Irene with me via Facebook (Cathy Schultz in Morgantown, WV). It would help me get to know her even better, and may comfort others to be able to share someone so dear and who deserves to be remembered kindly. I can pass on those stories to my mother, Margaret Washington Waycaster, daughter of William Harold Washington. I'm sure she would like to hear them as well; she also remembers Irene fondly.

How I loved "Miss Irene" from the time I entered her classroom when I was 5 years old until the last time I spoke with her at church 2-weeks ago at 50. She always had a kind smile and sweet voice. It has been a blessing to have known her. My sincere sympathies are with you all.
