Iris Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metropolitan Funeral Service - Suffolk Chapel on Mar. 16, 2026.
Iris Mae Brown of Suffolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on March 13, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by her loving family.

Iris bravely battled cancer for an extended period. She will be fondly remembered for her warm and affectionate smile, her laughter, and the profound love she held for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She has now found her well-deserved peace.

Iris was born to the late Theodore Barnes and the late Isabell Eggleston of Kinston, North Carolina. She dedicated 20 years of service as a fire-watcher at Norshipco in Norfolk, Virginia, where she retired. Following her retirement, Iris devoted her time to her true passion: caring for her 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom cherished her deeply.

Iris was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Barnes and Isabell Eggleston, and her devoted partner, Melvin Artis.

She is survived by her children, Robert M. Brown Jr., Ricky N. Brown, Kendrell Lee Brown, Dexter Lee Brown (Marvina), Felicia White (Curtis), and Shemeika Brown. She is also survived by her sisters, Martha Hall and Diane Eggleston. Her legacy continues through her 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, friends, sisters in love, and a very special friend, Stephanie Robinson.
