Iris M. Bryan

Iris M. Bryan, 84, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Iris was born in Clarendon, Jamaica, the daughter of the late George and Lucille (Forbes) Bryan, and was a self-employed "Igler" in the retail industry. After moving to Hartford in 1993 to live with her son, she worked as a home health aide and retired in 2008, caring for others with the same patience and dignity she showed her own family. Faith was central to her life, and she was a devoted member of Family Worship Church of God of Prophecy since 1993, sang in the choir, served wherever needed, and counseled younger generations with grace and firmness. Church attendance and Gospel music brought her joy, and she gave freely of her time and talents to her church family.

Iris was a wonderful cook, proud of her traditional Jamaican meals, and happiest when the house was full for family gatherings. Her grandchildren were adored and she spoiled them with love and gifts and guided them with a "no-nonsense" fairness that kept them on the right path. Warm and witty, she had a good sense of humor and loved to joke, yet she could be strict when it mattered. Iris had a warm and generous heart, and she would give you the shirt off her back or the last dollar in her pocket if you needed it. Her door was always open, and family always came first.

Iris also loved to read, and she treasured time spent with her sister, and often traveled back to Jamaica to visit, staying connected to her roots.

Though she has left this world, the goodness she planted endures in the lives she touched, the faith she modeled, and the love she gave so freely. May she rest in peace, held in the embrace of the God she served so faithfully.

Iris leaves to celebrate her life, her sons, Carlton Bennett and his wife Rose of Bloomfield and Lloyd Haughton of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her grandchildren, Carlton Bennett, Jr., Olivia Brown, Kerryann Haughton, Shanelle Haughton, and Georgia Haughton; her great granddaughter, Mya Racine; her sister, Icylin Scarlett; nieces and nephews, Annette Debouse, Raymond Scarlett, Oneil Scarlett, Sarnia Scarlett, and Patrick Muschette; great nieces and nephews, Julian Scarlett, Samantha Scarlett, Liam Scarlett, Savon Scarlett, Donte Scarlett, Jayden Scarlett, Kashin Winter, Joel, Jr., Isabelle, Olivia Yotte, Giselle Yotte; as well as other relatives and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by son, Ian Broughton; and her sister, Marge Bryan.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, April 3, 4-6 p.m., at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Blomfield Ave., Windsor, and on Saturday, April 4, 9-9:30 a.m., with a Celebration of Life, 9:30 a.m., at Family Worship Center Church of God of Prophecy, 650 Blue Hills Ave., Hartford.

Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
