Iris Mae David, 84 of Arkansas City died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Medicalodge in Arkansas City. A memorial service has been scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Central Christian Church. The Reverend Dennis Voth will officiate. Iris was born December 2, 1927 to George Rahn and Lucy J. (Klinginsmith) Rahn east of Arkansas City on the farm. She lived in the Cameron area for years before graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1945. Iris continued her education at Ark City Junior College and graduated from Kansas State University in 1949. On August 21, 1949 she married Walter E. David in Arkansas City and the couple made their home in rural Dexter. They moved to Arkansas City in January 2001. Iris worked for the Butler and Cowley County Extension offices, and beginning in 1967 was the Farm editor at the Traveler writing the Pitch Forks and Scoop Shovels column for many years. She was a long time 4-H leader, member Central Christian Church, Dexter E.H.U., and Cowley College endowment association. She is survived by her daughters, Jody Beaver and husband, Terry of Dallas, TX, Ruth A. David and Stan Dains of Fairfax Station, VA, Karen Ferguson of Dexter; grandchildren, Kasey Crow and wife, Michelle of Tampa, FL, Kari Crow of Oklahoma City, OK and Amanda Busey and husband, Doug of Dallas, TX. Iris was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sisters, Dorothy Taraba, Ruth Hardy and Georgia Marrs; brothers, Neil Rahn and Arthur Rahn. A memorial has been established with the Cowley College Endowment Association or the Central Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
