Irvin Johnson and I had been friends since childhood in Jamaica. We both attended St Georges Elementary School in Blackstonedge, St Ann, in the early 1950´s, and later, Kingston Technical (High) School. My recollections of those early years were that he was an outstanding student, debater and sportsman.

In the 1960´s we continued our education at different universities in the US, but started our professional careers with the same company, Esso (now ExxonMobil). Over the years, in addition to being professional colleagues, we continued to maintain our friendship, socializing with our respective families, although to a lesser extent in our advanced years due to retiring in different locations and to health challenges.

I will treasure my memories of Irvin. My sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. May he rest in peace and light perpetually shine on him.
