I cannot imagine the pain you are feeling. I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure there are many great memories you have that can bring a smile to your face and heart. Keep remembering those times. May the "Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our father who loved us give you comfort and comfort your hearts and make you firm. (2 Thessalonians 2:16,17)

For Irving...The simplicity of
the photos you took rang with
genius and brilliance.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I had the honor of going to Mr. Penn's memorial last night at the MET in NYC. After an introduction by Tom Penn (his son) a number of speakers made presentations including: Peggy Penn, Phylis Posnick, Anna Wintour (head of Vogue), Issey Miyake, James Wood, & Vasilios Zatse (his last assistant). A wide variety of guests attended from Richard Gere to Elliot Erwitt - truly an amazing evening & fitting tribute.

Dear Irving Penn,

Thank you for the inspiration that started while I was a student at SVA and Michael Cuesta opened one of your books on the LIRR. Since then I admired your vision that capture life and the still-life with simple truth and genuine emotion. Today, 25 years later I still flip through your images in awe just like that day on the train in 1984.

You will live forever between the pages.

Mr. Iving Penn will truly be missed by everyone he shared his life with from behind the camera's. His love he did not keep to himself. and for this we will truly miss. I've learned from his example to enjoy life doing the things I love may others take the load off and do the same, life is too short not to enjoy yourself like Mr Penn did. May the family remember all the good that he acomplished for others.

My Dad had his photo studio next door on the same floor for years on 40th st. Though I never really met him. I have always admired his work. My deepest sympathy to his family and close friends.

My prayers are for Penn family and friend at this grieving time. The God of all comfort will be their for you at this time also, through your prayer. The Bible says: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more." That is something to look forward to.

I think I speak for many NY art directors that had the good fortune of working with his images, always perfect, a great point of view, such a visionary. He'll be missed. Here one of my favorite images that he shot:

My condolences to Tom and Mia. A little known fact to you, my father who passed away this year at the age of 91 years old, worked for Lisa part time at her North Shore residence to assist with paint finishing her various sculptures. I think he viewed his association with her more as a collaboration rather than 'work', and he spoke highly of her and her husband. My sincerest sympathy, Louise Profita
