Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed peacefully on Sunday, October 19th at the age of 87. Preceded in death by parents, Elsie and Maurice Weisman; spouse, Margery Peilen Weisman; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Peilen; and brother-in-law, Paul Chassy. Demonstrating a lifelong curiosity and aptitude for all things scientific, Irwin studied physics at the University of MN and then went on to the University of CA-Berkeley, where he received his doctorate. He was among the earliest researchers using nuclear magnetic resonance imaging to detect cancer in animal tissue, paving the way for MRI as a clinical diagnostic tool. Irwin later pursued an MD at the University of FL-Miami and spent the rest of his career in radiology, deploying his dual training to help patients. His other passions included his family, classical music, photography, and repairing anything that needed fixing. Thank you to the caregivers at English Rose Suites, Grace Hospice, and also Stephanie Shapiro for all of their loving kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Margery P. Weisman Memorial Fund at the St. Paul Jewish Federation, Jean Harris Endowment Fund at Minnesota JCC, or donor's choice.
