Isabel P. Lucero, aged 96, of Alamosa, Colorado, passed away peacefully at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa, on November 20, 2025. Born on May 22, 1929, in Del Norte, Colorado, Isabel was a beacon of light and love to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
At an early age, Isabel's family moved to Alamosa where she graduated from High School. Soon thereafter, she met a young man who had returned from World War II, Rey Lucero. The couple would wed in 1949 and move around to other states such as Arizona and California.
After exploring different places, they decided to come back to the valley. This gave them the chance to raise their little family, where her first son, Robert, was born. Alamosa was always home for her even though she and Rey looked for other opportunities in Walsenburg and Pueblo.
In Pueblo, the couple would be able to save up and purchase their first new home. A few years later they were able to welcome their second son, Greg. As time progressed into the 1970s, so did hard economic and social times across the United States. It was during this time that Isabel and Rey went their separate ways. Isabel stayed in the family home helping Greg go off to college in the mid-1980s. Her Pueblo home would be a sacred place for her, her sons and especially her grandchildren. Many holidays and school vacations were spent in grandma's kitchen baking cookies or running through the slip and slide in her back yard.
In more recent years, Isabel longed to return home to Alamosa. So, in 2019 she was able to find a new place to call home that would support her ongoing health concerns. Coming back to the valley shows a true testament to her deep-rooted love for her hometown and its people.
The daughter of the late John R. Romero and Cirila Montoya Romero, and sister to the late Betty Cockrum, Isabel inherited a strong family ethos that she carried with her throughout her life. Predeceased by her son, Robert Lucero, her familial spirit never waned, as evidenced by the vast love she shared with those who survive her: her devoted son Greg Lucero and his wife Julie of Highlands Ranch, CO; her adored grandchildren Boston and Kyla Lucero, Alexandra Lucero, Nicole Lucero, and Brooks Lucero; and her cherished great-grandson, Ezra Lucero. Isabel's memory is also treasured by her brother Paul Romero and his wife Juanita of Colorado Springs, CO, along with her ten nieces and nephews who remember her fondly.
A loving homemaker, Isabel's abiding passion was her family. She dedicated her life to nurturing her home with warmth and grace, providing a sanctuary where friends and family always felt welcome. Her love for gardening exemplified her nurturing spirit, as she could often be found tending to the flowers and plants that added beauty to the lives of many.
Family gatherings were Isabel's utmost joy, an embodiment of her gentle, selfless, and loving nature. Her joyful laughter was contagious as many could be captivated by her carefree giggling and silly antics. She supported her family members unconditionally, valuing time spent with her grandchildren above all else. Isabel was there for her family at all times. Friends of Isabel will remember her for her caring demeanor, always placing the needs of others above her own. A truly selfless soul.
Cremation was performed at the Rogers Family Mortuary Crematory. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2025 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
