PALM BEACH, Fla. - Isabel Uppercu Collier Read died on Feb. 5, 2008, at her home in Palm Beach, after a brief illness. Mrs. Read was born in Rumson, N.J., on June 1, 1918, the youngest of five daughters of Ella Amelia Krueger and Inglis Moore Uppercu.
In 1942, she married Miles Collier. After the death of Mr. Collier in 1954, she married William A. Read, Jr. in 1959.
Mrs. Read was a benefactor of a number of charitable organizations including the PACE Center for Girls and the Isabel Collier Read Health Park in Immokalee and the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami and Palm Beach Gardens. Mrs. Read was active with Planned Parenthood in Palm Beach and founded Planned Parenthood in Immokalee. She was a member of the Four Arts and the Garden Club of Palm Beach.
Mrs. Read is survived by her husband, Mr. William A. Read, Jr.; her sons, Inglis Collier, Miles Collier (Parker) and Barron Collier II (Tami); her stepdaughter, Edith Wey; and her three grandchildren, Laura Collier, Barron Collier V and Charlotte Collier; and her step-grandsons, Thomas Wey and David Wey.
A memorial luncheon will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, from 12 noon to 2 p.m., at the Everglades Club, Palm Beach.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Read's memory may be made to the Community Foundation of Collier County in care of the Immokalee Initiative, 2400 Tamiami Trail N., Naples, FL 34103.
