The Homegoing Service for Isadore Moon
Isadore Moon was born on September 29, 1925, to Robb Bailey and Beatrice Moon and departed this life on December 3, 2022. Isadore was the youngest of seven children. He attended Buford Elementary and Buford Middle School in Georgia followed by two years of High School. At a young age and at the invitation of a cousin, Isadore took the brave step to move to Brooklyn, New York where he decided to join the U.S. Navy in 1943. He served in the military during World War II for four years before receiving an honorable discharge. He then returned to Buford, GA where he married Fannie Sue Kaiser in 1947 and they began to build a life together.
During his young adult years, Isadore enjoyed singing in the male chorus at Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Buford where he had been a member since childhood. After his and Fannie's second child was born, Isadore went back to school to complete his G.E.D. under the GI Bill. After earning his G.E.D., he worked for a short time at the Georgia Shoe Shop before taking another brave step. At the encouragement of a friend, Isadore moved to Kansas City, MO for better job opportunities. He worked at the U.S. Postal Service as a mail handler/machinist. He was also very active as a Union Representative where he helped employees as an arbitrator, working to address their concerns and resolve grievances. He also enjoyed coaching little league baseball in his spare time. Isadore retired from the Post Office after 40+ years of dedicated service.
Later in his adult years, he became an active member of Gethsemane New Testament Baptist Church in Kansas City where he fellowshipped for over 25 years. He attended services regularly and was known for being a sharp dresser. Occasionally, the Pastor could get Isadore to bless the church with a solo. Most importantly, Isadore had a personal relationship with the Lord. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family; and cruising to the Caribbean islands with family where he liked pointing out the differences between cruise ships and war ships. At the age of 92, Isadore remained very active and industrious. He even had a couple of small businesses that included driving customers to work.
From Isadore and Fannie Sue's union they had seven children. Preceding him in death is his wife of 65 years, Fannie S. Moon; his son Isadore Moon, Jr.; and his daughter Celeste Cowan. He is survived by his daughter Constance Moon of Odenton, MD; his son James Moon of Kansas City, MO; his daughter Anita Moon of KC, MO; his daughter Teresa Harris of KC, MO; and his son Derrick Moon of Odenton, MD; ten grandchildren – Anthony Moon, Tiffany Moon, Jamison Moon, Daniel Moon, Nicole Burton, Shawn Cowan, Calvin Cowan, LaTonya Moon, Donald Moon, and Tasha Moon. He is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; his nieces Margaret Sadler and Kathy Brooks; and a host of cousins.
