Iva Elizabeth Penlon, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully in her home on October 27, 2025. Iva was born on November 18, 1942, to Jeanette Shread and Jack Hannigan in Olean, New York.

Iva was a longtime resident of the Western New York region, where she spent most of her life before relocating to Vero Beach, Florida, with her husband, William Penlon, whom she married on November 7, 1992.

After graduating high school, Iva attended secretary school and later pursued a dedicated career in food service, working as a waitress for 20 years. She was a true people person who loved to make others laugh and was often known as the life of the party.

Iva enjoyed camping, bocce, competitive Nintendo games of Dr. Mario, and playing Euchre with friends and family. She delighted in watching the hummingbirds she faithfully fed and never let anyone go hungry. Her kitchen was always filled with her favorite Elvis Presley songs and her unmistakable laughter. She was rarely seen without her two staples: a warm cup of coffee and a stockpile of her favorite Classic Lay's potato chips in the yellow bag.

Iva is survived by her brother, George (Lou) Shread; sister, Janice Bonferraro; son, John Hogan; daughters, Dawn (David) Lemieux and Lisa Bergfjord ; step-daughter, Stacey Penlon; grandchildren, Christina (Eric) Dennison, Jessica (Christopher) Wood, and Molalign Meagher; great-grandchildren, Dillon Fulmer and Maliya Fulmer; and cousin, Maddy.

She is predeceased by her husband, William Penlon; parents, Jeanette and Russell Tripoli; brother, Richard "Dick" Hannigan; stepson, James Penlon; and her beloved dog, Red.

Iva has been my neighbor for the last almost 20 years. I was a young 23 year old when I moved in. Through the years Iva and Bill both were always waving and saying hi neighbor. They were good neighbors and always kept an eye on things when I was at work. I kept an eye on their place when they wintered in Florida. In the last few years keeping an eye on them became more of an important job. I helped when I could and would call or visit Iva for some company or to help her with something. The end of summer watching the house empty was hard to say the least. I am however grateful for the memories 8ver the years. One funny one was when they came home from Florida and I had saved a bucket of snow. I dumped it in the driveway in front or their car. Iva threw a snow ball at Bill and I quickly realized I may have started trouble. The last few weeks without them next door have been strange. I will always remember the dinner I made for Iva and I on her last Saturday night in NY. The sound of all her windchimes will be missed next summer. Rest in Peace my good friend, play some bocce and watch some golf. Miss you.
