I always thought that he was a great actor and kind person as he portrayed in his films and movies, I am greatful for the class and classic portrayal he gave all of us . Rest in peace one of my favorite actors

Watching Unsung Car Wash my goodness had no idea Ivan was the brother in Hogans Heroes. I was in High School when this movie came out. So so powerful and way ahead of its time. I lived in Charlotte 1984 to 2015. Would have loved to meet Mr Dixon and his family. His acting should have had far more recognition. Blessings to him and his family.

I am astonished to find out Mr. Dixon is dead. I had no idea he lived in or around Charlotte.
I have often wondered why he left the Cast of "Hogan's Heroes". I still enjoy watching the re runs.

I came across this memorial tribute to Ivan Dixon quite by accident ..he and my father were close friends and I knew him as Uncle Ivan. He was the personification of dignity and brillance and is truly missed.

Mr. Dixon played the part of a boxer on the tv series "The Twilight Zone." "Bolie" was his name. Rest in peace Bolie! " You got to believe Bolie!"

I had a crush on him in Hogans Heroes. There were no strong,Intelligent, well spoken, good looking, dark skinned men for a preteen to admire in those days. He was the kind of man a girl could dream of growing up to marry. Thank you Mr. Dixon.

An early pioneer whose presence is missed. I enjoyed his work in my adolescent years and watch reruns evry chance I get.

Hello. I was watching Hogans Heros last night and was curious to see what had happened to the cast. I was sadened to see that Mr. Dixon had passed. I enjoyed his performances a lot. He is and will truly be missed.

Glad to remember his handsome face&beautiful smile. He is the reason I watched HH. I was born in
1963, there were not many weekly TV shows featuring black men. My dad was my everything;handsome &also had a beautiful smile, people often told him he favored Mr.
Dixon. Dad considered that a great compliment.

He was one of the first Blacks on tv I saw in my youth that acted in a sitcome without being a comedian or comic relief. I just wish he did more shows on both sides of the camera.
I also wish I had been able to purchase that album of the cast I saw in a record store back in the 1980's.

Ivan Dixon has always been a personal hero to me and members of my family. To this day I consider NOTHING BUT A MAN to be the finest portrayal of the black male psyche ever put on film and a large measure of that success must go to Mr. Dixon's powerful portrayal. I had the pleasure of meeting him once years ago and found him to be as gracious and honorable in real life as he was onscreen. We are all the better that he once walked amongst us.

My deepest sympathies goes out to the Dixon's family. Mr. Ivan Dixon will truly be miss. But when it's all said and done we will see him again .

I was born in 1961 in New Hampshire where I continue to live with my wife and children today. I had a Hogan's Heroe's lunchbox all through grammer school. I truly enjoyed your husband's/father's work on that series as a child and realized time and time again that without his ability to mimic a character or work his magic with the electronics the rest of his prison mates would have had more severe consequences.
As a living kidney donor, I realize that I may have more in common with you dad as well. I wish you all the best during this time. I always appreciated Mr. Dixon.

Ivan Dixon was my favorite actor and director. His seminal film, The Spook Who Sat by the Door, was revolutionary and important when it was made and even now. He and Sam Greenlee made a great team. I will miss his passion, honesty and integrity for the craft of filmmaking and his wonderful televisual and filmic portrayals. They do not make men like him in the film industry anymore.

One of the most powerful television performances I have ever seen was of Mr. Dixon in: THE FINAL WAR OF OLLIE WINTER. That program came on one night in 1967 when I was twelve years old, and I understood his powerful portrayal in that play. I have been a quiet fan of his ever since. I have been forever touched and inspired by his dignity and strength as an actor, and as a man. I always felt more empowered just thinking of him because I felt and witnessed the power of his presence.

A great actor whom I always enjoyed watching no matter what. His efforts to get more work for Black people in the film industry was without peer. He will sorely be missed.

My prayers are with this family in your time of bereavement. I know that you are very proud of him, of his accomplishments. I didn't know him personnally, but I watched him constantly on T.V. I sometimes used to imagine him as kinship, maybe because my father, whose name was Joseph Van Dixon, and he died when I was one year old. But it gave me a joy to just pretend as a child that we were related. Now he is with the Lord. May he rest in peace and never be forgotten. Just a fan!

An extraordinary man. I always got a smile when I saw his name in credits of shows I enjoyed. He did so much to advance Black actors-we need more just like him. My sympathy to all who loved & admired him. We've lost a great one.

I lived in Charlotte a few years back, and had I only known that he and I were in the same city, I would have sought out the city for Mr. Dixon, autograph book in hand! As a youth growing up in Gary, Indiana we were coming through a period when being black was not so proud, that is until the likes of Brother Ivan Dixon came along. I immediately connected with this brother because he was good looking, cool, laid back and he had a pivitol role as a "Staff Sargent" who was in charge of the most important part of the military operation that was in place inside the prison setting on the popular TV series Hogan's Hero's which happened to be my favorite television show all because of Mr. Dixon. I grew up following this man's career and I always aspired to be him. Not be like him but I wanted to be him. That's how great his impact was upon me. I was then and am now so proud of him for the positive influence that he gave us as a people. In my opinion he was a great man and wonderful human being. I am so certain of this for many reasons. One is the fact that he was married to one woman for over 50 years, another great accomplishment and attestment to who he was and how dynamic he is even in death. Farewell Mr. Dixon and I pray that God will give you the peace that you seek after and so well deserve. To the Dixon family I pray that the precious memories of your love one bring you comfort and joy during this difficult moment. May God richly bless you all very much.
