IZETTA POUNCEY 

July 7, 1947 – October 12, 2025

Miss Izetta Pouncey, age 78, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama after a lengthy hospital stay. Izetta was born on July 7, 1947 to the late Ruthie Mae Pouncey and Willie Harper. She was born in Abbeville, Alabama. Izetta always took pride in sharing that she was from the “Dothan area”. Izetta was one of Seven children. Izetta was especially close to her 2 sisters , who preceeded her in death, Mrs. Georgia Mae Pouncey Dawkins and Ms Willie Mae Pouncey.

Izetta spent the last 37 years in Opelika, Alabama. She was loved greatly by her East Alabama Mental Health family. She enjoyed living at Second Street the last 16 years of her life. Izetta loved her home , her housemates and staff. Izetta had a special friend, Willie Grant , who she shared fun, laughter and companionship with throughout years. Izetta loved people with her whole heart. She liked talking with folks, laughing and always enjoyed a Dr. Pepper. Izetta was a faithful member of the Joy Sunday School Class at First Baptist Opelika. She enjoyed attending Valley Haven School for over 25 years, where she had many friends.

Izetta is survived by one aunt, Daisy Pouncey, Brother-in-law, Kenneth Dawkins (Kenny), Several Nieces and Nephews- April (Patrick) Nettles, Natasha Pouncey , Chris Pouncey, Darrane Moultry – All of Dothan, AL ; Shawn (Nicole)Pouncey of Atlanta, Georgia; Latosha Pouncey, Yolanda Pouncey, Jimmy Pouncey Jr, Orlando Pouncey, Jehmar Fulgham-Pouncey, Charles Pouncey – all from Tacoma, Washington. Izetta was crazy about her great great nephew, Kaeden. Family was very important to Izetta and she loved them all dearly.
