Izrail Kaplan, age 96, of Longmeadow MA, a Holocaust survivor, passed away at home on 10/13/2025. He was married to his beloved wife Karmina for 72 years. Born in former Soviet Union on 11/11/1928, as a young boy he survived the WWII and returned to his city of Minsk after it was liberated.

Izrail and Karmina were married on 8/1/1953 and started family in 1955.

They loved cross-country skiing, ice skating, fishing and mushroom picking.

Izrail was known as a very positive person and loyal friend whose friendship lasted over 50 years, but the focus of his life was his family.

Besides his wife, Izrail leaves behind his children Len Kaplan(Tanya) and Sonya Kay (Michael), his grandchildren Yelena Kaplan, Galina Rifka Kaplan-Peck (Chaim), Sergey Slootsky and great grandchildren Stella, William, Yair, Moshe, Eshka, Nuria, and Shira. He is also a beloved uncle to Mark, Jacob, Emmanuel, Emma, Grigoriy and David.

Izrail was grateful to live in the US for over 30 years. He volunteered in local JCC and soup kitchen and wanted to give back to the community that welcomed him when he arrived from USSR.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 sisters Sonya, Elena, Anna and Elizabeth.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 11AM-12PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, MA 01028.

Donations can be made to any charity in memory of Izrail Kaplan.
