John Charlie "J. C." McKinney, 82, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at his residence in the West Berrien Community in Tifton, Georgia.  

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Albritton Funeral Directors in Tifton, Georgia, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, followed by the funeral service starting at 3:00 PM with Rev. Garvie Nichols, Jr., officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. 

Born on November 15, 1942, in Tift County, Georgia, J. C. lived a life characterized by his dedication to family, work, and his community. 

J. C. had a fulfilling career with Tifton Aluminum, where he dedicated thirty-seven years of hard work before retiring. His value for work and dedication was reflected not only in his job but also in his personal passions. He loved gardening, especially cultivating flowers, and found joy in working with animals and attending livestock sales. His favorite time was when all his family could gather at his home.

J. C. will be remembered for his warm personality—he loved people and had a unique ability to connect with everyone he met, often treating strangers as friends. His generosity towards helping others was a hallmark of his character, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him. 

He was extraordinarily proud of his family and cherished his role as a family man. J. C. was married to his wife, Melba Hall McKinney, for sixty years as of December 13, 2024. Together they raised three children: LaRae and David Moore of Chula, Melanie and Kevin Skeath of Hahira, and Brian and Rebecca McKinney of Sylvester. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Haley and Matt Hughes, Kearstin and Brian Sanders, Michael and Tara McKinney, Logan and Casey Moore, Courtney Gay, Makenna and Riley Mays, Levi and Jessica Moore, and Kinsley McKinney, along with his eleven great-grandchildren.

J. C. is also survived by his brother, Bill McKinney of Tifton, and his two sisters, Ruby Carter of Lenox and Mary Copeland of Archer, Florida. He is remembered fondly by his wife’s sisters, Connie Hayes and Dana Jackson. 

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.

J. C. was preceded in death by his father, John William McKinney, and his mother, Bessie Lee Hall McKinney.
