J D Nunley

J D Nunley, age 66, of Abingdon, Va., passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 28, 2025. He was born January 6, 1959, to the late Carles Jessie Nunley and Minnie Bell “Pearl” Nunley. He was known as a loving husband, the absolute best dad and a special uncle to many of his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, J was preceded in death by two brothers; Donnie Nunley and David Eugene Nunley.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Irma Nunley, of Abingdon, Va.; and daughter Chandra Nunley, of Bristol, Tenn. He is also survived by eight siblings - Estherlene Reynolds (Ed), of Abingdon, Va., Bobby Lee Nunley (Nancy), of Abingdon, Va., Billy Wayne Nunley (Gayle), of Lebanon, Va., Doson Nunley, of Abingdon, Va., Sis Nunley, of Abingdon, Va., Carles Jessie Nunley Jr. (Marjorie), of Abingdon, Va., Lena Mae Rasnake (Jody), of Abingdon, Va., and Jeffrey Allen Nunley (Pam), of Bristol, Tenn.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2026, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Pallbearers will be Carles Nunley Jr., Jeffrey Nunley, Josh Nunley, Tyler Nunley, Justin Nunley and Brandon McCorkle.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greendale Chapel in memory of Mr. Nunley, P.O. Box 1314 Abingdon, VA 24212.
