J. McCarthy Obituary
ALBANY - James Richard McCarthy, 86, entered Eternal Life, Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Richard graduated from Vincentian Institute Class of 1958, and then met the love of his life while working in the Trust Department at National Commercial Bank. He retired in 1998 from the New York State Thruway, after 38 years. After three years of retirement, he then went to work for Quester III in 2001, after 20 years he once again retired in 2021.
J. Richard was the son of the late Charles F. McCarthy Sr. and Charlotte Harris McCarthy. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nuala Bridget Nally; and his six children, Nancy Mangels (late Jay), Richard McCarthy (Lynn), Peg McCarthy Jeffers (Dan), Kevin McCarthy (Lucy), Mark McCarthy (Marion) and Mary McCarthy (Allan Stier); grandfather of Caitlin, Casey, Kieran, Colleen, Brendan, Declan, Harper, Reilly, Ella, Justin, Makenna, Asia, and Melena; great-grandfather of Emilia, Olivia and Freya.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Richard's family, Tuesday, January 6, 2026, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, N.Y. 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only.
Funeral services, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell Street (Rev. Kenneth J. Doyle Way), Albany, N.Y. 12208, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held at Albany Rural Cemetery, immediately following the Mass.
