Dr. J.V. Doan Jr.

Dr. J.V. Doan, Jr., age 91, of Knoxville passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025. He was among the most gracious, generous, caring, and gentle person you could ever know. He lived his life putting others before himself and touched countless people with his kind heart and unconditional love. Dr. Doan faithfully served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He also cared for the Carter community as a family dentist, practicing at the 4-way Inn area on Asheville Highway for 30 years. He was an active member of Dutch Valley/Central Church of God, Holston Hills Country Club, the Optimist Club, and the American Dental Association. J.V. had a deep love for discovering new foods and exploring new places. He took every opportunity to see the world and make new friends. He was also a skilled golfer, a confident dancer, and a sharp, strategic Spades and Chess player. Above all, J.V. was a dedicated Christian who exemplified the love of Christ in every area of his life. His light shined (Matthew 5:16). He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather (Opa/Papaw), and great-grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, kindness and strength that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Biggs) Doan, his father, J.V. Doan Sr., and mother, Lilly Mae (Brock) Doan. Left behind are his children, Terri (Dennis) Geiser, Joe Doan and Cheryl Doan, and Mike (Cindy) Doan and his sisters, Libby Barnhill and Sharon O'Toole. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Bethany (David) Steele, Katelynn Doan, Europe (Derek) DiCillo, Diamond (Isaac) Stevenson, and Denver Doan, as well as his great-grandson, Vincent DiCillo, and his friend and companion, Anita Sellers. J.V.'s life was defined by compassion, faith, and wholehearted devotion to the people he loved. His family and friends will forever cherish his memory. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm Friday, December 5, 2025, at Central Church of God. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm with Rev. Paul Metler officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 pm Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a 1:00 pm interment service. Online obituary is available at www.rosefuneraltn.com.
