Jack B. Behmer

Jack B. Behmer, 91, of Urbandale, IA passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Bickford Cottage in Urbandale. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 4, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA. The family will host a reception from 2:30 – 4:30 on Thursday at the Elks Lodge #2752. Jack was born on June 26, 1932 to Fred and Fay (Beachy) Behmer in Red Oak, IA. Jack graduated from Red Oak High School in 1950. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for three years. Jack later on went to Iowa State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in engineering. He married his best friend Katherine Wehrle on December 17, 1983 in Burlington, IA. Jack was employed at the DOT in Ames where he retired in 1996. Jack was a member of the Elks Lodge #2752, Local VFW and the Scorpions Shuffleboard Team. He enjoyed doing everything which includes gardening, golfing, playing shuffleboard and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Katherine Behmer, one step son, Steven Wilhelm of Shawnee, KS, one daughter-in-law, Nancy Behmer of Polk City, IA, four grandchildren, Kim, Daniel, Jennifer, Jonathan, and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Mark Behmer, Brad Behmer, one daughter, Jane Behmer, three sisters, Lila, Janet and Shirley.
