Jack Bresie Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shafer Funeral Home on Jan. 3, 2026.
Mr. Jack Cagle Bresie was born on August 25, 1933, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Arthur Bresie and Bobbie (Scaborough) Bresie, and died Thursday, January 1, 2026, in Lufkin.

Jack was the proud father of four daughter, Cindy Taylor (husband Jeff Taylor; children Jay and Jamie); Susanne Lively (husband David Lively; children Ben Lively and Amy Pruett); Lesa McMains (husband Ray McMains; children Chrystal Tamillo and Justin Havard); and Jackie Bresie (wife Carole Keefe; child Avery Keefe).

In 1984, Jack married Donna Welch, and through this marriage he gained four stepsons: Steve, Rob, Mike, and Chip.

Jack's passion for building began early in life. As a young boy, he built forts in the woods behind his home. While in college, he designed and built racing boats and competed on local lakes. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, earning multiple marksmanship awards. After his service, Jack worked in the Pattern Shop at Lufkin Industries before starting his own home-building business in Lufkin. He later served as the Building Inspector for the City.

Following his retirement, Jack and Donna moved to the mountains of Colorado, where Jack built his dream home-a structure reminiscent of a rustic hunting lodge. They were active members of their church in Antonito, Colorado, and Jack fully embraced life as a "mountain man."

Jack was known for his quick wit and playful sense of humor. You never quite knew whether he was serious or teasing-he might tell you he had trained as an astronaut or played for the Dallas Cowboys, all with a twinkle in his eye.

Jack will be deeply missed for his laughter, his warmth, and the joy he brought to those around him. His smile and humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Jack. You are now in the finest home of all-Heaven.

He was also preceded in death by his younger brother, Mike Bresie and his wife, Pat Bresie (daughter, Camille Cooke).

A private family service will be held in the mountains of Colorado at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at Parkwood for the care and support they provided to our beloved Pappy Jack during this past year. We would also like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for the amazing gentle care they provided to ensure his transition was peaceful. They were a great support to the entire family.
