Jack Cunningham Obituary
Jack W. Cunningham, 82, of Torrington, husband of Millie (Gilbert) Cunningham, passed away peacefully Friday, March 29, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. He was born August 26, 1941, in Barlow, OH, son of the late Ralph and Isabelle (Montgomery) Cunningham.
He graduated from Warren high school class of 1960. He then proudly served in the US Navy and was stationed onboard the USS Gearing DD 710 during the Cuban Missile Crisis, it was the first ship to encounter a Russian ship, causing it to reverse course. Jack served alongside Millie's brother Grover, who introduced the two. Jack and Millie were married on Halloween in 1964, this year they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage. Prior to his retirement, Jack worked in the Tool & Die industry. He liked to hunt and then moved on to coaching little league and later played softball for the Hartley Hustlers. He was a member of the Thomaston Fish & Game Club. Jack liked to garden, gamble at the casinos and go out to eat. He always liked to joke around, but mostly, he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Jack is survived by his son Michael Cunningham and his wife Diane of New Milford; his daughter Jacqueline Cunningham and her partner Charlie M. Sommerfelt of Torrington; his brother Randall Cunningham and his wife Sue of Barlow, OH; his sisters-in-law, Virginia Gilbert of Torrington and Joan Montalvo of Waterbury; his grandchildren, Jessica Acevedo and her husband William, and Ronald Davis Jr., and his wife Melissa; his great-grandchildren Anastacia and Savannah and several nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his brother Bobby Cunningham.
Family and friends may visit the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St, Terryville, on Saturday, April 6, from 10AM to 12 PM, with a service at 12. Burial with Military honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Thomaston. www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com
