Jack Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Inc. - Cridersville on Jan. 24, 2026.
Charles A. 'Jack' Davis, age 93 of Wapakoneta, passed at 1:18 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2026 at St. Rita's Mercy Health. He was born February 15, 1932 in Auglaize County to the late Ralph and Amanda Hengstler Davis. On April 24, 1954 he married Alice Jean Sprague who passed September 16, 2016.

Jack graduated from Cridersville High School in 1950. Shortly after graduation, he and his good friend, Melvin, set out on an adventurous drive to Alaska. Upon returning home, Jack worked for Tuttle Construction, where he helped build the Lima Mall and the Ohio State Branch in Lima. He later had brief employment at the Lima Chemical Plant before beginning his lifelong dream of farming in the 1960s, starting his own dairy farm.

Farming was more than a career for Jack - it was a lifelong passion that he proudly shared with his children. He had a natural talent for building and fixing things and could often be found tinkering around the farm. Jack was quick-witted, loved the outdoors, mowing, and spending time on his land, but most of all, he loved time spent with his family.

Jack was a member of the Farm Bureau and Bethlehem Christian Union Church. He was honored to serve as Senior King alongside his wife as Senior Queen of the Auglaize County Fair.

Survivors include 4 children – Alan (Diane) Davis, Luke (Renee) Davis, Matthew (Jamie) Davis, Kellie (Ron) Miller all of Wapakoneta; 11 grandchildren – Denver (Megan) Davis, Drew (Jamie Gothard) Davis, Devin Davis, Hannah (Dylan) Dunlap, Emma (Jacob) Fenbert, Chelsea (Daniel Boecker) Davis, Lauren (Blake) VanVorce, Andrea (Troy) Green, MacKenzie Davis, Jack Davis, Kerrie (Ryan) Smith; 18 great grandchildren with 2 on the way; and a sister – Irene 'Renie' Steiner.

He was preceded in death by a sister – Rose (Frank) Baber; a brother – Robert (Penny) Davis; in-laws – Dale Steiner and Marvin (Virginia) Kuhns.

A special thank you to Elaine Briani from the family for taking great care of Jack.

Funeral services will begin 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Bethlehem Christian Union Church, Buckland. Pastor Brad Colley will officiate. Burial will follow in Buckland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 30th at Bethlehem Christian Union Church and one hour prior to services Saturday.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial contributions may be given to Bethlehem Christian Union Church or Cancer Association of Auglaize County.
