Jack Eugene Edgington

Jack Edgington passed away peacefully in his sleep in Longmont, Colorado on February 13th, just two days before his 94th birthday.
Born on a farm near Diller, Nebraska to Roy and Lura Edgington, Jack grew up with his three brothers - Royal, Wayne, and Budd. Jack is survived by his wife of 71 years Louise, daughter Lynda, granddaughter Miriana, grandson Kyle, brother Wayne (wife Verna), and Royal's wife Alice. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses, grand-nieces and nephews and their spouses, and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Jack's early years were spent in Longmont, Colorado and Hastings, Nebraska. After graduating from high school in 1946, he served two years in the Army, stationed in Tokyo, Japan. After returning from Tokyo and starting college at Hastings College, he was recalled to service during the Korean War for an additional one-year tour of duty. Before shipping out, Jack and Louise Lundeen, a high school classmate, were married on November 27th, 1950, at Fort Lewis, Washington.
Upon discharge after his second tour of duty, Jack and Louise moved to Denver where Jack attended and graduated from Denver University with his BSBA. He went to work for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in 1954 as a bank examiner and graduated from the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University in 1963. Jack was transferred to Washington, D.C. in 1966, where he held progressively higher-level positions in the Division of Bank Supervision. In 1981, Jack was appointed Deputy to the Chairman of the Board of Directors. His responsibilities included supervision of the FDIC's Personnel and Employee Relations Offices. Jack retired from the FDIC in 1983, and he and Louise moved back to their beloved Colorado.
In 1985, Jack started a second career as a Director with Alpine Banks of Colorado. Alpine Bank founder and Chairman, Bob Young, who Jack had hired out of college into the FDIC, coaxed Jack out of retirement to join the Alpine Bank family. Jack greatly enjoyed his nearly 30 years with Alpine Bank, including driving from Denver to Glenwood Springs nearly every week for meetings. Driving through beautiful country was a love of Jack's, starting with driving a tour bus during his college years in Colorado, driving to examine banks throughout Colorado in his early FDIC career, and once driving a limousine in Denver for President Dwight Eisenhower.
After retiring from Alpine in 2013, Jack enjoyed true retirement with Louise and their Scottie companion Skylar in their Lakewood home. After both Jack and Louise were hospitalized with Covid-19 and started battling injuries from falls, they decided it was time to move to assisted living. In January of 2021, Jack, Louise, and Skylar moved to Balfour Senior Living in Longmont, where they received loving care from the excellent staff. Daughter Lynda lives nearby and is grateful to have been able to visit her parents frequently. Louise is continuing at Balfour and misses Jack greatly but frequently shares with Lynda in all the wonderful memories.
Jack was a kind, gracious, humble, generous soul. He made friends easily and kept them for a lifetime. He took care of his family and friends, always looking out for them and providing unconditional love and support. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always willing to listen and provide gentle guidance and comforting words. His was a long life truly well-lived, and his love will continue to be felt by all who knew him.
Burial will be at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. A committal service with military honors is scheduled for Monday, March 7, 2022, at 1:00pm.

Donate to your local Humane Society – Jack loved dogs, and almost always had a dog at his side, even in the Army. He was particularly fond of the Scotties he and Louise had as companions over the course of 40 years. Not all dogs, cats, and other pets are as fortunate to have loving humans in their lives.
Donate blood at your local blood bank – Jack was a dedicated blood donor. He was frequently called to donate blood in urgent situations. He never refused to donate, eventually giving dozens of gallons of blood over the years, and no doubt saving lives.
