Jack Edward Heard entered into rest on Sunday, November 2, 2025, in Washington, Georgia. Born to the late Tom and Grace Dawkins Heard on the 2nd of September, 1931, in the small town of Tignall, Georgia where he grew up with Tommie Lou Johnson whom his youthful eyes sparkled with admiration. Their childhood friendship blossomed into a beautiful romance that lasted a lifetime. They exchanged vows when Tommie Lou was just seventeen and their marriage was a testament to enduring love, spanning nearly seven decades until her passing in 2021. Tommie Lou was the cornerstone of Jack's world, his partner and the love of his life.
For 45 remarkable years, Jack dedicated himself to his work at Washington Dry Cleaners. His route covered Wilkes County and the neighboring counties, where his presence was a symbol of reliability, service and kindness. His work ethic and amiable demeanor made him a well-respected figure in the community.
Jack's faith was the compass that guided his life. As a faithful member of Tignall Baptist Church, he served with humility and devotion as a Deacon. His faith was not just a part of who he was; it was the foundation upon which he built his life and nurtured his relationships.
In their younger years, Jack and Tommie Lou often camped at Pistol Creek. There, Jack earned the moniker "ski king," showcasing his remarkable ability to ski on a boat paddle. He was not only a spectacle on the water but also a mentor, teaching many young people the art of skiing with patience and joy.
As the years unfurled, the couple found joy in the great outdoors. North Georgia's Unicoi State Park became their summer haven, while Plant City, Florida, provided a warm retreat during the winter months. These trips were cherished chapters in their lives, filled with the beauty of nature and the warmth of each other's company and the friends they made.
Jack's friendly nature was evident to all who crossed his path. He took pleasure in the simple joys of life, such as piddling and meticulously cleaning his vehicles. His kindness was as clear as the gleaming chrome on his well-kept car, reflecting the heart of a man who took pride in all aspects of his life.
Above all, Jack was a kind and faith-filled man. His gentle spirit and unwavering belief left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered. He lived a life that was a living example of his values-values that will continue to resonate through the lives of those he touched. He is survived by his daughter Cathy H. Armour and husband Robert; sister, Carolyn H. Snider and husband Ronald of Martinez; grandchildren, Andrea Norman and husband Patrick and Grier Armour; great- grandchildren, Zack Norman and Alex Norman. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Mack Heard.
The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary one hour prior to the funeral that will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Tignall Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
