Jack N. Karchner 97, passed away peacefully at his residence in Williamsport on November 1, 2025. Born on May 4, 1928, in Williamsport, Jack lived a full and vibrant life dedicated to his family, his community, and his country.
Jack was a proud veteran who served with distinction in the United States Army Medical Corps during the Korean War Campaign, stationed at Fort Pickett. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans, a Mason, and a Shriner. After his military service, Jack built a successful career as an optician with Lycoming Opticians, where he worked until his retirement. On February 22, 1997, Jack married the former Sherry A. Moore-Jones. Together, they celebrated 28 wonderful years of marriage.
Jack had a passion for life that was evident in his many interests. He loved traveling with his family, tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, and enjoying music. A talented organ player, Jack also delighted in square dancing and singing in a barber shop quartet. His dedication to the arts extended to his volunteer work as an usher for the Community Arts Center.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Seymour R. and Grace M. (Hively) Karchner. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sherry A. Karchner; his two sons, Jeffrey Karchner (Jenny) of South Williamsport; and Craig Karchner (Karen) of Landenberg; his stepson, Christopher Jones of Bealton, Virginia; and his stepdaughter, Annette Coleman (David) of Howard. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Crystal Parker, Megan Sharp, and Trevor Karchner; three step-grandchildren, Lydia Wockenfuss, Spencer Wockenfuss, and Amelia Jones; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services to honor Jack's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home, 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, with Reverend Bradley A. Walmer officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a public viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Jack will be laid to rest with military honors in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to UPMC Hospice and the Comfort Keepers for providing exceptional care and comfort for Jack in his final days.
