I met Mr. Kemp at a garden party in 1978 in Buffalo N. Y. I was from Ohio and just 19 yrs. old. I was attending this affair with my uncle who supported Mr. Kemp. I had the pleasure of meeting him. He was a true polite gentleman. I admired him from that day and never forgot that amazing pillar of knowledge and strength. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. He had made a lasting impression on me as he did on so many others in his life.

For Jack...
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

This is my final farewell to a great man who I am proud to have had the opportunity to read about and hear him espouse on matters of human decency. I was struck by the death of Jack Kemp, who was a true advocate for the poor and disenfranchised. In January 2009, when the news broke about his battle with cancer; I decided to Google his name and in doing so I was able to read a letter on his website that he had written to his grandchildren regarding the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. The letter was compassionate and loving as he so graciously told his grandchildren that although his candidate of choice lost the election he was proud and not sad that President Obama had won. It was truly a letter that I will be proud to share with my family and friends for years to come.
I am certain that Mr. Kemp has a special place up there in heaven waiting for him. He has lived the life of a Christian in words and deeds. May God bless the Kemp family is my humble prayer and I will remember Jack Kemp a true champion of people that were less fortunate than he was an all around American guy with great admiration for diversity a true role model. It is my hope that as we reflect on the life of Jack Kemp we will as a people begin to also lead my example. It is apparent to me that he left his mark on society in a very positive and his words are left as record to posterity for future generations. Listening to his children at the public memorial service it is evident that the letter I read was just a glimpse into the heart of a loving father and statesman that was Jack Kemp the man, husband, father grandfather and Christian.
May God Bless the Kemp Family is my humble prayer.

A man of principle and honor, who was willing express his beliefs. Everytime he gave a speech he spoke from the heart. The passing of Jack Kemp has once again created a void in our society of leadership. It was a great honor to vote for him for Vice-President. He will be greatly missed. The debate in our country on the role of government and taxes in the economy will not be the same with his abscence. May he rest in peace. My prayers go out to the Kemp family.

Jack Kemp was man of honor and a politician with his heart in the right place. He was never afraid to offer an endearing hug to even those he just met, just ask Queen Elizabeth, to her surprise she was a recipient of one of his great big Jack Kemp bear hugs. He always had a word of encouragement to those around him, and by those who knew him, he is already missed. God Bless!

Jack Kemp was a great leader, intellectual, and statesman. He convinced President Reagan to cut taxes and regulations, which led to 120+ months of unprecedented economic growth. Kemp was a patriot who believed in America's free enterprise system, democratic government, and opportunity society. Most importantly, Kemp was a loving husband and father, and a devoted Christian who lived according to his faith. He was a dear friend and mentor to me. I will treasure my memories of Jack Kemp and continue his efforts to improve the lives of the American people.

Words are inadequate to express the deep feeling of loss that I share with my family members, upon the passing of Jack Kemp. We respected him so much as a great American, dedicated to opportunity and justice for all. I hope that his family finds comfort in knowing that so many in this country and abroad, share their sorrow. I never met him, but felt connected to him through his commitment to working people and to African Americans. Jack Kemp's voice and passion were unique. He has left us all a tremendous legacy.

First and foremost, the New Jersey Association of Public and Subsidized Housing for Residents and residents throughout the nation will never forget your commitment to people residing in government assisted housing. You took a stand and reminded America these residents were citizens and wanted to be treated as such. You opened the door for residents' program funding that helped many to become self-sufficient while residing in public and subsidized housing. Our organization continues to fight that fight and will always be indebted to you.
Thank You Secretary Jack Kemp for what you have done to help low to moderate-income residents of government assisted housing. You will be missed, but never forgotten!

Jack,
I spent my youth watching you throw footballs, so despite all the good you did with your life, my most enduring memory of you was at Shea Stadium throwing a football on the run over 70 yards in the air while being chased by the Jets. A life well lived. You'll be missed.

I was thirteen years old when the Chargers came to San Diego. Jack Kemp was our hero. Mr. Kemp spoke at our Pop Warner awards banquet. He had to depart early to go and comfort the family of a Charger teammate that was killed in a auto accident a day before. The fact that he still made time to at least speak to us for a short time when he was suffering a loss has always been with me these past 47 odd years. We were crushed when he was sent to Buffalo. We were always proud of his great service to our country, as in our minds he will always be a San Diego Charger. The Chargers are to wear their 1960 jerseys this season in honor of the old AFL 50th anniversary. We will remember Jack Kemp all season and forever.

My first experience of seeing & hearing Jack F. Kemp was in 1952 at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles. He was an experienced Senior/Student Leader & I was a new Freshman, when he opened his mouth to speak to our class about the proud traditions & academic excellence at Fairfax. He spoke strongly & passionately from the heart about being a Fairfax Lion. We should support our school because it was one of four top academic Iowa Testing schools in the nation. You knew the charisma was there in his smiling face. And there was an air of religious truth in every comment made that day.
That football season of Kemp at quarterback, Bergdahl at left half, Kopel at fullback and Silvera at right half was the best & most powerful backfield in the history of our school. It was all about Kemp again as the field general leading his team quickly down the field for a touchdown.
Yes, he was a man for all seasons whether in the classroom or in sports. Jack Kemp rose to the top of the AFL/ NFL, graced the halls of Congress and ultimately came forth to run for Vice-President of the United States. He gave us his ultimate sacrafice in making this nation a better place for all races, colors & creeds to live a better life together. Finally, he taught each of us that we had the open freedom to being the best we could be in whatever future endeavor we selected.
Thank you Jack Kemp for coming forth from day one in Los Angeles and touching our lives with your strength, bravery and courage in every challenge you faced in life. May God keep you peacefully in his heavenly domain. For we on Earth will not forget your presence among us.

We had the opportunity to meet Mr. Kemp at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. We had been visiting family in Buffalo and were on our way back to Long Beach. We spoke of Buffalo, the Bills and some areas of politics. We will always remember his last words to us, "help is on the way". We still talk about it not really sure if he meant, help for the Buffalo Bills or our country. A very nice man who contributed so much not only to the Buffalo area, but the country as well.

Dear Joanne:
I remember the two of us growing up in Fillmore, attending school at Redlands and Oxy, being cheerleaders, and then rooming together at the Maid of Cotton contest in California. The last time we spoke in person, we were swimming in your mother's pool with our children just before you and Jack went to Washington, D.C. You had so many questions, you were excited, and I'm sure it was all you imagined then and much more. Jack led what would have been a full life for three or four people. He certainly inspired us, and he always made those of us who attended your wedding, and knew him just a little, very proud.
At this sad and difficult time, with a new life ahead for you, you have your large and wonderful family surrounding you with their love.
We're sending our warm memories and our love to you,

I never met Jack Kemp, but he helped me hold my head high when I lived in another state and people mocked Buffalo, NY. We met in Vail in the early 70's and I bought Jack's or Jeff's Head ski's. My Mom and Dad, Bill and Franny, always spoke fondly of you and Jack. At the time I was 19 years old an keenly interested in politics, Jack was one of the few who encouraged my interest. I later watched in amazement as the GOP did not welcome his ideas, I did and they became the basis of good life. Joanne thank you for loaning him to all of us it was too short of a trip, we will miss him greatly. Werner and Joan Minshall

I remember as a child meeting Mr. Kemp at a fund raiser. My parents were very active in the politcial arena and helped Mr. Kemp however they could. Mr. Kemp and my father were talking and he was holding a football. He tapped it a couple times and thew passes to me. I remember I was in awe of the man who stood next to my father. He told me to go "Deep". My view of him was getting smaller and I saw his arm reach back and release a football that looked like a baseball from that distance. I ran as far and as fast as I could. I did not know but I was running on a dock to a small lake. I dove and caught the ball, when I braced for the fall I felt the splash. I held on with all my might so I could impress Mr. Kemp. He told me that I would be a great receiver someday. My love of Football and my admiration of Jack Kemp began there that day, in the sun, drenched and soaking wet. Mr. Kemp was a wonderful and kind man. I have believed in him and he was and will always be a hero to me and many like me. I will miss him more than anyone will ever understand. To the Kemp family and Mrs. Kemp especially, Thank You, from my heart, for being the family that all aspire to be. Jack Kemp will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, and candor, which in the military I hold in the highest regard and try emulate his beliefs. But I will also remember the day I met Him and your beautiful family Mrs. Kemp and offer my deepest condolences and heartfelt sorrow for you loss.

It was an unusually warm autumn evening in 1966 when two of my friends and myself decided to ride our bikes over to Jack Kemp's house on Idlewood Ave. in the village of Hamburg to get his autograph. Totally enthralled by his success as a hometown hero as well as his accessibility to three scrawny 12 year olds, we boldly stepped onto his front porch. It was dinner time and already dark. The deal was whomever rang the bell and did the talking got to keep the autograph - if he were to humor us. I was the one who pushed the button and in a second or 2 Jack Kemp stood before us, smiling. I sheepishly told him how much we liked him and what a great thing it was to have him in our village. He was as friendly as the guy next door and asked each of us our names and our family's ties to the area. He then left and returned with a sheet of his own stationery, with a simple gold embossment at the top, "Jack Kemp". In his own hand, he addressed us by our names and wrote something different to us each. It was probably the most humbling experience I can remember - a true star taking time from his dinner and family to thrill a couple of Bill's fans.
I got to keep the treasure.
It's framed and now includes a signed, golden rookie football card he later sent me when I wrote to him in the mid-90s recalling this same event.
I am in shock now and will forever love this icon for his true spirit of humanity.

AMERICA NEEDS MORE MEN LIKE JACK KEMP. HE WAS A TRUE CIVIL RIGHTS ADVOCATE THAT LIVED HIS BELIEFS NOT JUST EMOTED THEM. HE SET A VERY HIGH STANDARD OF HONESTY, LOVE OF COUNTRY, LOVE OF WIFE AND HIS CHILDREN PLUS TRUE DECENCY TOWARD ALL MEN

I was privileged to meet Mr. Kemp while I was a teenager and he was with the San Diego Chargers. I was extremely impressed by his overwhelming friendliness. His smile was infectious, as I shook those large and gnarled hands. Later as an adult, conservative and a Christian I was even more impressed. Here on earth we have lost a man of the deepest character toward all mankind. In heaven he is celebrating the truest kind of freedom. And now waits for us. My deepest condolences to his wife and family.

I know that this is a difficult time, but may the comfort found at Philippians 4:6,7 which tells us, "do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God, and the peace of God that excels all thought will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus."
Going to the hearer of prayer during this sad occasion will bring you much comfort

as a kid growing up through the 50's and into the mid 60's Jack Kemp was one of the athletes I truly admired. After my return from Vietnam I was proud he was our congressman.

Jack was the person who brought me to the Republican Party. I personally worked for him on his Executive Finance Committee leading up to his Presidential bid in 1988, and later to try to elect him Vice President in 1996.
He was a truly great man!Next to President Ronald Reagan, he was my favorite politician of the modern era.
I felt very sad when I heard the news of his death yesterday. My heart goes out to Joanne and the entire family.
My love,
Larry Klayman

Doubtless there is a line in heaven to welcome Jack, dare I say ask for an autograph? He graciously signed one for me at a Bills training camp, which I treasured. He touched so many lives. This is a difficult loss, and I pray for those who knew him best.

To the family, friends, associates of Jack F Kemp: May the words be of comfort. Memories of his lifetime always be with you. My condolences.
Whenever I hear the name Jack Kemp, I think of his quarterback yrs with the Bflo Bills and later as Congressman.
He was positive in his approach to the things he was committed to. You hardly hear the negative but always the effort and the good that this man was committed to.
God bless the Kemp family during this time.
