Jack Leveille Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 24, 2025.
Jack Alan Leveille passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, with his wife Chris Kellogg holding his hand. Jack was born Oct. 6, 1944, in Maywood, IL to Forrest "Fo" Leveille and Elvera "Ole" Leveille. He grew up in Lombard Illinois. Jack was part of a close-knit family, spending an idyllic childhood amongst many aunts, uncles and cousins. His family spent much time visiting with close friends in Boone Iowa, leading him to go to college in Ames Iowa and fall in love with farming.

It was in college where he first played handball and developed a lifelong love for the sport. He played continuously from college into his 80s. Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2019, he continued playing several times a week until earlier this year. Throughout those 55 years, he found so much joy from the group of regulars, which would change over the years, but were always a tight knit group, playing in tournaments or sharing beers after the game.

Jack was very athletic. In addition to handball, he loved biking, swimming, canoeing, frisbee, football, baseball and running. He became a Minnesota Twins and optimistic Vikings fan and enjoyed learning about all sports. He often commuted to work on foot or on his bike.

After graduating with a master's degree in nuclear engineering from Iowa State University, he briefly taught science, but eventually moved to Red Wing, MN to work at Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant. He was part of the group that designed and initially staffed the plant, working there for over 30 years until retiring in 2006.

Jack and Sherry (Dietz) made a home in Red Wing. For a time, they worked hard at hog farming while growing their family. After leaving farming and returning to work at the nuclear plant the family moved back into town. They were active members in their church and community. Jack learned about US policies in Central America through the Resource Center of the Americas and helped organize trips with Habitat for Humanity and Witness for Peace to Nicaragua with community members and his family. Committed to speaking Spanish, he studied it in Guatemala while continuing to learn about Central America.

In 2003 he met his wife, Chris. It clearly was true love as he was willing to leave his beloved Red Wing and move to the cities to be with her, ultimately settling in Golden Valley for over 20 years.

Following retirement, Jack and Chris traveled, most frequently to Spain. Jack volunteered for Minnesota Senior Federation. Following its demise, he became more active at Community Mediation and Restorative Services, spending almost 20 years using his mediation training in their school and restorative justice programs and court diversion for youth. And of course, Jack and Chris enjoyed spending their retirement years with their children and grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his wife Chris, his children, Kris (Nelson), Al (Sarah), Kevin (Carrie), Sarah (Derek) and Miriam (Ian), his grandchildren, Diego, William, Finley, Seneva, Brennan, Tennyson, Josie, Asher and Marcus, and his sisters Rosemary (Dennis), Sue (Stan) and Vi

(Gibbs), and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins
