Lakeland, Florida - Jack Allen Libey, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and cousin passed away on January 25, 2026, at the age of eighty-nine in
Lakeland, Florida, surrounded by loved ones, after a long gradual decline.
Born on May 4, 1936, in
LaGrange, Indiana to Orie Allen and Beryl Elaine Elliott Libey, Jack was known for scholastic achievement, basketball prowess, and a strong work ethic from an early age. An eagle scout, he graduated from LaGrange High School in 1954 and received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. After graduating in 1958, he was commissioned to the United States Air Force and served until late 1962, retiring as a Captain. From Jan 1963 until late 1971, he worked as Chief Engineer, then Vice President of Engineering, at Randall Bearings in Lima, Ohio. In 1971, he moved to Florida with his family, where he had accepted a management position at Lakeland Electric. He retired from Lakeland Electric in 1995 as Director of Power Production. During his career, he became a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and was honored by the governor of Kentucky to be commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel.
Beyond professional accomplishments, Jack was active in his church serving as both a Presbyterian deacon and elder. He and wife "Mac" could be found at every new movie that came to town, but their favorite times were spent crossing the country in their motorhome. Favorite destinations were American Public Power Association conferences where he served in leadership roles, Unicoi State Park, New Orleans, Alberta, Canada, for enjoying the Calgary Stampede, and Mount Rushmore for watching July 4th fireworks.
Jack was the quintessential, loving girl-dad and family man. He is survived by his beloved daughters Stacie Poppell (Joe), Kacie Copeland (Phil), Paige Iacob (Viorel) and Erika Learish (Jim); stepchildren Norman Altman (Izabela), Bonny Irvine (John), and Travis Altman (Starr); nephews Larry Libey (Kathy) and Jeff Bordner (Terry), nieces Pam Sale (Jeff) and Nancy Norman (Jeff); grandchildren Nicole Aulisio (Tom), Baron Feraro (Dani), Aaron Feraro; Joshua Copeland (Cheyanne); Jacob Copeland (Ashley); Mackenzie Iacob, Jessica Feinman (Matt) and Michelle Learish (Suzy), and great-grandchildren Giavanna, Luciano, Gage, Lachlan, Atlas, Kenneth, Laila, and Harper who brought immense joy to his final years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 40 years, Muriel Louise McLauchlin Libey - known to all as "Mac"; his wife of 17 years, Clara Altman Libey; his parents; brother, Kent Libey; sister, Naida Warner; daughter, Tracie Feraro; and stepdaughter, Jean Allen.
A Memorial Service will be held at Gentry Morrison Funeral Home, 1727 Bartow Road,
Lakeland, Florida on Sunday, February 8, 2026, with visitation 12-1, service directly after with a formal procession to Oak Hill Burial Park for interment.
