Jack Allen Loraas, 63, passed away on December 26, 2025, in Casper, Wyoming. Born on January 28, 1962, in Hardin, Montana, Jack grew up with a natural talent for fixing anything he touched. He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1980 and later completed training at Cheyenne Aero Technical, becoming a certified aeronautic mechanic. His skill, curiosity, and work ethic shaped a lifelong career in the trades.

For more than three decades, Jack worked as a diesel mechanic at Wyoming Machinery. Known as a true “Jack of all Trades,” he earned countless certifications and was the person friends, family, and coworkers turned to when something needed to be built, repaired, or torn down. Jack never knew a stranger—he had a way of striking up a conversation, offering help, or sharing a laugh that made people feel like they’d known him forever. If you knew Jack, you probably had a story about him or with him: a joke he delivered at just the right moment, or an adventure that became a memory because he was part of it.

Outside of work, Jack found joy in the things that connected him to the outdoors and to his childhood sense of wonder. He loved hunting and fishing, especially when it meant time spent with family or friends in the quiet of Wyoming’s wide-open spaces. He also had a lifelong fascination with trains. But above all else, Jack loved his family with a fierceness that could move mountains. He was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved—whether that meant a full house, a noisy holiday, a quick phone call or voice message, or simply sitting together after a long day. His family was his anchor, his pride, and the heart of every decision he made. These were the things that grounded him, brought him peace, and filled his life with stories he loved to tell.

Jack is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karel Loraas; his children Jeremy (Sherrill) Scogin and their children Madison and Greyson, Jana (Jesse) Pitcock and their son Everett, Heather (Jake) Sands, and Clay (Emma Scott) Loraas. He is also survived by his siblings Charlie (Renee) Loraas, Kevin (Tina) Loraas, Shelley (Tim) Callahan, Cindy (Bill) Thompson, and Kelley McMains, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved deeply.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alden “Al” Loraas and Marilyn Loraas, his grandson Hayden Scogin, and his nephew Shawn Callahan.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at Highland Park Community Church in Casper on January 10, 2026, at 12 p.m., with Pastor Greg Smith officiating. A reception will follow at Highland. Arrangements are entrusted to Bustards & Jacoby Funeral Home.

In honor of Jack’s generous spirit, and in lieu of flowers, please donate to Jason’s Friends Foundation, 1701 East E Street Ste 100, Casper, WY 82601—a cause that held special meaning for him.
