Jack Loving Obituary

Published by Storke Funeral Home-Bowling Green Chapel on Mar. 3, 2018.
Jack W. Loving, 85 of King George County passed away on March 3, 2018 at Mary Washington Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Jack was born March 13, 1932 in Prospect, Prince Edward County, Va. to Alexander and Elizabeth Blair Loving. Jack served in the U. S. Navy from 1950 through 1954. After the Navy, Jack moved to King George and began his 34 year career at the Naval Warfare Center in Dahlgren until his retirement in 1984. Upon leaving Dahlgren, he returned to his love of construction. Jack built his home of 47 years as well as others for family and friends. Jack loved to travel and was an avid RV'er for fifty years. Trips with his wife Rosalie and family took them to all fifty states, Canada and Mexico. Jack's favorite trips were to Alaska. He was dedicated to his family and spent much of his retirement time gardening, working in his yard and the Iris beds that surrounded his home in Edgehill, which affectionately became known as Edgehill Gardens. Jack was an active member of the Fredericksburg Iris Society, an affiliate of the American Iris Society, for 31 years, serving in many different roles. His gardens were on the American Iris Society National tour on two occasions. Survivors include a son Paul (Gail) of Waldorf, Md.; daughter Sherron Thompson (Steve) of Waldorf, Md; son Charles Loving (Samantha) of Jacksonville, Fl.; daughter Sonia Kuppert (Kurt) of Spotsylvania; son Wayne Loving of Ruther Glen; a step daughter Denise Buckner (Art) of Boydton; sister Ann Miffleton of Newport News; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; niece Anita Butler (Bradley) of King George; nephew Garland Fenwick (Patty) of Stafford; nieces Jo Ann Miffleton of Newport News and Linda Powell (Bobby) of Seaford. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Rosalie; parents Alexander and Elizabeth Loving and his brother Charles Loving Gaa. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, March 7 at Storke Funeral Home, Nash and Slaw Chapel in King George, Va. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 8 at 11 am at Storke Funeral Home, Nash and Slaw Chapel, officiated by Reverends Susan Reaves and Justin Williams. The service will be followed immediately by burial at Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery in King George with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society; American Heart Association or King George Fire and Rescue. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors of Mary Washington Hospital 3 North and the MICU staff for the incredible care given Jack and the family. To all of the Loving Family,
Our mom, Nancy Coffelt, has just learned of Jacks passing after trying to reach him by phone for many weeks. Our mom and dad, Nancy and Ray Coffelt grew up with Jack in Richmond, Virginia. They were life long friends and cherish many memories with Rosalie and Jack. We send our love, thoughts and prayers to all of you during this difficult time.

With love,
The Coffelt Family

Please accept my condolences on Jack's passing. I'm the reporter with The Free Lance-Star who visited with Jack and Rosalie a couple of times to write about their wonderful iris garden at Edgehill. They were always so kind and welcoming, not to mention willing to educate me on the interesting ways of the iris. It was such a pleasure to know them, and I will continue to remember them each time I pass by Edgehill lane or simply enjoy the beauty of the iris.

Your dad was so precious! I went as Chaperon with our Church School Children (Seventh Day Adventist) to present the School History Program where ea child was dressed in proper outfit as they told of their character grom George Washington to to the Wright Brothers. He enjoyed them! I had recognized him as he stood there - hectalked of trying the place' to see if he would like it. He spoke so highly of his loving wife and their many years of playing with Iris. * That's how we knew them - only through the yearly outing to their home in K G. He lived life as he loved it, with family and Gods nature. Our Condolences to your Family.

Sonia - We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jack. It was an honor to have known such a great person. Loved the times Rosalie and Jack visited our home in Culpeper. He would visit with Dan while Rosalie and I scrapbooked. Praying that God will embrace you in comfort and give you strength and peace during this difficult time.
