Obituary published on Legacy.com by Coldren-Crates Funeral Home - Findlay on Feb. 5, 2025.
John Howard "Jack" McCoy, stalwart of our family, entered heaven on February 4, 2025, at the age of 90. He joins his son, David, who passed in 2016. We know those two are enjoying a beautiful reunion.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of more than 66 years, Eleanor, along with his first-born son, John (Laura) and daughter-in-law Kathy. Jack's legacy of love and kindness lives on in his grandkids: Katie (Dustin), Evan, Matt and Zach, and two adored great-grandchildren, Bennett and Callan.
Jack was born in Findlay to Lawrence C. and Irene Loose McCoy. His sister, Kay, and her husband Dick, preceded him in death as did his big brother, Don. Jack graduated from Findlay High School and attended BGSU before entering the U.S. Air Force Cadet Wing. He was proud of his 4.5 years of service as a lieutenant and navigator on a B-66 Destroyer. His military service changed his life when he met Eleanor while stationed at Shaw AFB in Sumter, South Carolina, following his initial service in Sacramento.
Married on Sept. 7, 1958, Jack brought his southern bride "Sugar" to Findlay where they raised their family and enjoyed a loving circle of friends. He finished his degree in accounting at BG and began a long career in accounting at Marathon where he walked each day from their home off South Main. Jack was known for his energy and while he enjoyed boating, travel and other hobbies after his retirement from Marathon, he forged a second career with 10 years at The Right Thing.
Jack's generosity and kindness had a major impact on the Findlay community. All who met him through his service – City Council, church leader and choir member, volunteer at the hospital and more – admired Jack for his open heart and ability to carry on a conversation (he could talk to a fence post!). Jack was a faithful servant to his Lord Jesus Christ and was a long-term member of College First Church of God. He treasured his men's Bible study group and the fellowship and support he received over the years.
One of the last things Jack said to us about his 90 years is: It went fast. So, live like Jack – love others, give generously and treasure every day. Well done, Jack.
