Jack Salisbury Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2025.
Jack Salisbury passed away peacefully at his home in Midland, Texas, on November 8 at the age of 89. Born Johnny Frank Salisbury on April 25, 1936, in El Dorado, Kansas, he was the son of John Harrison Salisbury and Clara Lou Ella Todd Salisbury.

He is survived by his adult children and grandchildren as well as his sisters, Mary Lou Morris and Sally Thompson.

Jack spent the first half of his career pursuing creative endeavors in radio, songwriting, advertising, and performance. During his touring and performing years, he opened for Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens, and George Jones. In 1964, as host of Johnny's Record Party, Jack interviewed The Beatles at Red Rocks Amphitheater. He loved to recount this experience, and his interaction with John Lennon had an especially lasting impact on Jack.

In the second half of his career, Jack transitioned to home building, followed by work in various fields. He was particularly proud of Dunrite Construction, a small general contracting business he founded in the Nashville area in the 1980s.

A longtime member of the Episcopal Church and a devoted friend of Bill W., Jack dedicated much of his time to recovery work and mentoring others. In his retirement years in Perry, Kansas, he worked to create recovery groups that led to enduring friendships and mutual support.

The family would like to express their gratitude toward the amazing professionals at Midland Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Midland, and Cimarron Assisted Living. You cared for Jack with warmth and compassion and made his last weeks and months peaceful and comfortable. Truly, thank you.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity in Midland, TX.

Jack will be remembered for his love of golf, entrepreneurial spirit, candor and quick wit.
