Jack Michael Schertz, 60, of Adair, Illinois, passed away at 2:26 a.m. on December 24, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Jack was born on March 6, 1965, in Peoria, Illinois, to Orville James Schertz and Mary Elizabeth Schertz. He married Lynda Rittenhouse on September 23, 1995, at the Industry Assembly of God Church in Industry, Illinois.
Surviving are his wife, Lynda Schertz of Adair; two daughters, Jennifer Carrano of Macomb, Illinois, and Kari (Derek) Faught of Prairie City, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jayden Panapitiya, Raelynn Panapitiya, Wyatt Faught, and Elijah Faught; one sister, Kim (Jerry) Wilson of Macomb, Illinois; two brothers, Tim (Jackie) Schertz of Adair, Illinois, and Jim (Jenna) Schertz of Adair, Illinois; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack lived most of his life in Adair and the McDonough County area. He attended church at the Industry Assembly of God.
Jack worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator with Local 649 from November 15, 2002, until October 1, 2021. He took great pride in his work and loved following in his father's profession. Jack also served as a volunteer with the New Salem Fire Protection District since 1996. In addition, he worked at Lincoln School for many years, where he especially enjoyed working with the teachers and children.
Above all, Jack loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and spending time fishing.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 10, 2026, at the Industry Assembly of God Church in Industry, Illinois. Pastor Jon Keck will officiate. Jack's final resting place will be at Harris Cemetery in Table Grove, Illinois.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Industry Assembly of God Church or the New Salem Fire Protection District.
